The 2012 Australian Bluewater Freediving Classic will be proudly hosted by the Coffs Harbour Bluewater Freedivers from 16 March 2012 to 18 March 2012. This competition is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious events on the Australian spearfishing competition calender. The format of the competition is a restricted take of pelagic and highly migratory species. Divers of all levels are encouraged to participate with arrangements made to include boat as well as shore-based diving.
The venue for the competition includes but is not limited to the Solitary Islands Marine Park. All competitors start from the small craft launch in Woolgoolga, NSW. The venue is suitable for family holidays and divers are strongly encouraged to make a family trip out of the opportunity.
Last year saw some fantastic species being landed including snapper, mulloway, cobia together with wahoo and spanish mackerel. A large marlin even put in an appearance. Divers were overwhelmed by the abundance of fish in clean, warm almost tropical water.
Divers are reminded to register via the website www.chbf.com
for an early registration discount. Final registration will take place at the Woolgoolga RSL on 16 March 2012. There will not be an opportunity for late registration after the 16 March 2012. All competitors are also reminded that no diving in the marine park is allowed on 16 March 2012.
