Looking for something fun and exciting to do these school holidays???
The Yachting Australia ‘Start Sailing’ program is designed to progressively teach you how to sail dinghies, starting with the essential skills in the first course, ‘Start Sailing 1’. More advanced skills and techniques are gradually introduced in each of the five courses, leading to Start Racing.
Start Sailing 1
This Course is designed to provide a safe, fun and enjoyable introduction to Dinghy Sailing for complete beginners. The Course includes an introduction to fundamental boat handling skills and essential safety knowledge under the guidance of a Yachting Australia Instructor.
The Course Outline: Preparing and planning, clothing and safety equipment, identifying parts of the boat, rigging sails, ropework, sailing techniques and manoeuvres, steering and crewing in light winds, capsizing and towing, launching and recovery of boats and observation of basic rules.
Start Sailing 2
This Course is designed to consolidate the experience, practices, understanding, knowledge and information gained in the Start Sailing 1 Course. Introducing more skills and knowledge that will enable the successful participant to competently and safely sail in a dinghy in conditions of light winds without guidance.
The Course Outline: Rigging a boat independently, ropework, sailing techiques and manoeuvres, basic crewing and helming methods, rescue procedures and drills, capsize recovery, crew recovery, launching and recovery, sailing theory, meteorology, observations or right of way, windward and leeward and overtaking.
