Queensland Fisheries seek witnesses to mangrove destruction
Queensland Boating and Fisheries Patrol officers are looking for people who may have witnessed significant mangrove destruction at Mandalay in Airlie Beach. Mangroves are ecologically vital to the local marine ecosystems and the sustainability of Queensland's fisheries.

An area covering 30m x15m of mangroves was cut down in the intertidal zone in December last year.

The area where the damage occurred is quite public and can be easily seen from the water so they are hoping that someone saw or heard something that might help with the investigation.

Anyone with knowledge of the incident should contact the local QBFP office on (07) 4946 7003 or call the Fishwatch Hotline on 1800 017 116.
