Vic anglers asked to report tagged Murray Cod captures
Anglers fishing in the Goulburn and Ovens rivers are being asked to keep watch for tagged Murray cod this season. The plastic tags are pink and look like a match-stick. Each of the tags carries a unique ID number and a phone number to report the capture to.

Several hundred Murray cod have been tagged in these river systems as part of ongoing research into the sustainable management of Victoria's Murray cod fisheries.

Last season 28 tagged cod were caught in the Goulburn River which helped researchers understand more about the population density of species at several sites along the river.

If one of these fish is landed anglers should note the:

  • tag number;
  • date of capture;
  • approximate location of the capture;
  • length of the fish; and
call the number on the tag - 03 5774 2208.
