Day 7- Riders Prepare for Action in Germany

Aug-08-2014

Day seven from the Think Blue Kitesurf World Cup played out as anticipated with warm temps, sunny skies, and no wind. In spite of no promise for contestable conditions, riders were kept on hold throughout most of the day. Passing the time visiting with fellow competitors, swimming, and lounging in the bustling event village, riders relaxed and mentally prepared for the next day’s competition, as the wind prediction was seemingly eminent.

Already, the weekend crowds had begun to arrive and the beach and village were packed with people. On the main stage in the village, different brands presented their latest gear, much by the design teams themselves, giving a unique opportunity to ask questions about the products to their creators. Pro-riders were on-hand in their sponsor’s booths, engaging with the public and signing autographs for the throngs of enthusiastic fans.

There are only two days remaining to complete the competition. Four heats of the trials are yet to be run, and as such, the day will start early in hopes to finish the trials, single eliminations, and complete as much of the double elimination as possible. Rain is expected in the morning as well, which will likely play a factor in the wind strength and consistency. With the anticipation of tomorrow’s promising wind forecast, riders took advantage of the down time to prepare themselves for a long day of competition ahead.

“Long days can be really tough, especially when it is raining and windy because you are in your wetsuit all day and outside in the wind. It is definitely a factor that you want to prepare for." commented competitor Forest Bakker. “Tomorrow should be good as long as the rain doesn’t last too long. My heat was abandoned two times already in light winds yesterday, and tomorrow they are calling for up to thirty knots so it is going to be a big change." he added.

Tomorrow riders will meet at 8:30 am with a first possible start at 9 am. The wind is expected to be 20-30 knots. The live stream will start with the main event, which should begin around 10 am.
