5 Phrases That Only Kiteboarders Say.

Green Arrows!
If you’re a kiteboarder, you understand what this sport is a way of life. Kiteboarders never look at the world in the same way after their first kite lesson, and after a season at the beach, we all begin to use a unique set of phrases that only kiteboarders utter, here are five of the best.

“Green Arrows!”
Spoken via text message, or occasionally beginning a phone call is this unique phrase meaning ‘the wind strength is more than 18 knots!”. Thanks to the easy to use graphs right here on Seabreeze.com.au, the humble lime green arrow has become synonymous with good times and small kites.

Canyagimmealaunch?”
One of the happiest accidents of the sport of kitesurfing is the need for a fellow kiter to launch your kite, and if you don’t ask, you don’t get! This simple phrase (and conversation starter) is so common around the kiting beach’s of the world, you can understand it no matter how strong the wind is, what language it’s said in, or how fast it’s said. “Can you give me a launch?” You could probably even lip read it if you tried.

Pump Up
Try asking a stranger if they’re “Going to pump up?” at the beach, and you’re sure to get a puzzled expression. ‘Pumping up’ is certainly unique to kiteboarding, well, and those weirdo’s on inflatable surf mats… They ‘pump up’ too.

Boosting
Kiteboarders don’t have turbo’s, so using the term ‘Boost’ to refer to jumping (in particular, a jump where the kite is sent back over the kiteboarder to create lift), is a term you’ll only hear at a kite beach.

“Chicken Loop”
One of the strangest part names you’ll find anywhere, the Chicken Loop is a critical part of any kiteboarding control system. Without it, we’d have arms like gorillas and balls of steel. Just in case you haven’t heard the story, ‘Chicken Loops’ were named as such by kiteboarders of two line kites in the 2000’s. These hardcore kiteboarders referred to the riders of 4 line kites (which require a chicken loop to function) as ‘Chickens’ because they could depower their kite in gusts!

To give a practical example, here's a throwback to a hilarious video clip from the Liquid Force team titled 'Shit kiteboarders say', as in, 'things kiteboarders say'... It's 100% true...
