An unusual, but interesting idea for your next holiday.

A different take on your kiting holiday...
We get some interesting emails here at Seabreeze.com.au, but this one really caught our attention.

Picture your next kiteboarding holiday. Chances are it involves blue water, white sand, palm trees and a small beach shack with cheap beer. But have you done that already? Do you crave a little more history, some fancy wine or a little French cuisine?

Check this out – the Battlefields of Somme KiteHouse in France, Amiens. You heard right, situated right on the Battlefields of Somme, this kite holiday with a difference is for the discerning traveller who’s tired of palm trees, and wants to do a bit of historical sight seeing. They say:

“It's now the beginning of the Centenary of the Great war (1914-18). May be one of your grand-father has travelled so far away from his country to join the allied armies to make us free here in France & Europe. Peace & thanks to them.”

For those not familiar with The Battle of Somme…

“The Battle of Somme, also known as the Somme Offensive, was a battle of the First World War fought by the armies of the British and French empires against the German Empire. It took place between 1 July and 18 November 1916 on either side of the River Somme in France. The battle was one of the largest of World War I, in which more than 1,000,000 men were wounded or killed, making it one of humanity's bloodiest battles.”

As far as kiteboarding goes, it’s not out first pick for a related “no-wind” activity, but it’s certainly one of the more unique options if you’re looking to get away from the islands this winter. Check out their website for all the details.
