Kiteboarding with two kites, the new light wind solution?
Have you ever needed to hold someone elses kite while they adjust their harness? In that split second you’re hooked to two kites at once, surely the thought crossed your mind… Is it possible to kite with both of these?
We see two people riding one kite all the time, Keahi and his mate Lewis Back put up a cracker of a video earlier this week of them doing it in the Noosa river mouth (
But rest easy friends, thanks to Arthur De La Mauviniere, we have video footage to prove it. Let the carnage begin!
In all seriousness, don’t try this at home please. Trying to hit two quick releases takes time, and you probably don’t want to see the consequences of having two kites attached to you get tangled together. Instead revel at the amazing skills of this guy, who took two Airush Lithium kites, hopped on a board and went for it. He even makes a few little jumps!
The only other guy who can rival this feat is Mr Ray Bethel, who flys three kites at once. Granted he’s not kiteboarding at the time, but he flies one stunt kite in each hand, and another from his belt. Yes that’s right, flies from his belt. He even does kite loops and other synchronized tricks.
Does this mean he had 20m worth of kite to hold down? According to much banter around the beaches, it appears that yes he does! Unlike stacking two kites a few meters behind each other (one kite on 25m lines, the other on 5m), which doesn’t quite seem to equal double the power, riding two kites totally independently, in theory would double it! So by the same logic, riding two 18m North Dyno’s would equal 32m of power at the harness. Game to try it?
