Tandem Kiteboarding goes live this summer
It’s common place in the skydiving world, it’s how you experience paragliding for the first time, and for decades hang gliders have been doing it. So why not kiteboarding? Tandem rigs are relatively easy to set up, and with a competent rider in control, taking a complete stranger for a ride can be quite easy.
What it involves, is a passenger wearing a waist harness and an oversize kite. Attached to their back, an instructor wears a harness connected to the passenger, and they do all the flying by wrapping their arms around the passenger. It’s no different to a tandem skydive, where the instructor controls everything and the passenger (or student) simply enjoys the ride.
Obviously passengers will need to be competent in the water, but with some basic briefings and a little practice, tandem instructors can perform little jumps and even back-rolls quite easily. Imagine being able to show a complete stranger what kiteboarding is REALLY like, without the hours of lessons to get them riding solo!
Do you think tandem kiteboarding will become the norm over the next few years?
Look out for it at a beach near you...
