Worlds first Aerial 360 on a Strapless Surfboard

Strapless Aerial 360 - Or a Flat Three as it's known in kiteboarding.
This week down in Merimbula, NSW, Airton Cozzolino achieved at the 2014 Australian Wave Nationals what many kitesurfers have been trying for years. Almost 10 years in fact, we remember the wakestyle guys trying to do them at the Coconet Classic in Tannum Sands around 2005!

The strapless flat three, also known as a 360 Aerial in the surfing world. Now this is truly a unique blend of surfing and kiteboarding, because we see both halves of the move completed every day in their respective sports, but the blend is not only difficult to achieve, the mechanics of such a thing are mind-boggling.

Here’s what’s going on. Airton lines up and pops his surfboard off the lip of a wave. He’s unhooked as he does this, and rotates his body a full 360 degrees, passing the control bar behind his back as he spins. Meanwhile, his surfboard needs to be precisely angled in relation to the wind so it stays on his feet. The wind sticks the surfboard to Airtons feet as he makes the 360 degree rotation, before he stomps it down onto the water to stick his landing.

Is your mind boggled yet?

Wait until you see the video!
