From Ball-Points to Boards - BIC gets back to nature.

In an interesting contrast, the company well known for the plastic ball-point pen are leading the charge with a SUP they call the most environmentally friendly mass produced stand up paddle boards ever, dubbed ‘Earth – Deep into Nature’.

Made with sustainable materials like Cork, Paulownia and flax fibre, the boards are unique in both look and shape, with a definite bias towards the cruising forms of stand up paddling. If you’re into the ‘wood look’ boards, then you’re going to absolutely love the look of these things.

Laminated to look like they’re carved from solid wood, the boards don’t hide behind layers of carbon and paint. They’re finished in a layer of fiberglass for protection, then polished all over to show off what’s inside.

Don’t let the rustic look fool you however, you can guaranteed these things are made with the same precision as the rest of your high end carbon boards. Bic have been making quality boards for decades, and we’d expect these wooden boards are no different.

Of course these days you can’t sell a product without an awesome video to go with it, and BIC aren’t lacking in that department. Just watching this promo clip will make you want to pack up a tent, down a Chia Pod and paddle off down the closest body of water you can find. It shows how awesome stand up paddling can be in its most simple form. Check it out below, and if you’re interested in paddling a board made of sustainable materials, go and see your local SUP retailer for more information. Australian pricing is yet to be released, but expect these boards to be comparable to the high end carbon boards in price.
