The 52 second 'Tunnington' SUP Sprint

The Tunnington sprint - 200m in 52 seconds.
Last weekend an 18 year old from the Gold Coast burst onto the world stage with a paddle shattering performance in what was considered the World Championship for 200m sprints – doing it in just 52 seconds.

The Lost Mills event was packed with stand-out Aussie performances, but none more so than young Trevor Tunnington from the Gold Coast, who nabbed third place in the unique race behind Connor Baxter and Titouan Puyo. Racing over several lakes, with 100m sprints between each one, the Lost Mills Race certainly unique. Not to mention the fact that the prizes consist of beer and pretzels! Of course there’s some cash too, but that’s Germany!

Back to the sprints though, and in a dual lane course over 200m, Tunnington managed to cross the line in just over 52 seconds (52.02) smashing Danish paddler Casper Steinfath by what would have been a couple of board lengths at 54:67. Fellow Aussie Jake Jensen was up there too, with a time of 54:83.

So how did he do it? That secret’s for only Trevor to know, but check out the image adjacent to see how unique his stroke is, and the sheer determination on his face!
