Connor Baxter, digging deep after being sick all week.
The biggest Stand Up Paddle race of the year was completed in record time last weekend!
Connor Baxter, fresh off his sick bed after being struck down the week before, was in fine form. Smashing the race SUP record for the unlimited class with a time of 4 hours 13 minutes, he beat rival and SUP legend Dave Kalama by only 25 seconds! To be so close at the end of a four hour plus battle proves that every stroke counts in these races.
In the production class, Kai Lenny won paddling the new 14' Naish Javelin, which some debated whether it was in fact a production board at all. Turns out it is, and it will be offered as a limited edition in the 2013 Naish Stand up paddle range. Good news for all the amateur Aussie paddlers this season!
The unlimited boards were all in the 17'+ range, which gave the guys on these boards a massive edge over the production 14 footers. With boards getting longer every year the race records will keep getting broken, but how long can they get? Surely 17'6" is long enough!
First in the girls division was Talia Gangini with a time of 4 hours 55 minutes. We havn't heard too much from Talia in the last few months. Maybe she's been hard at work, training for the M20? It's good to see her back though, and keep an eye on her during the next events coming up through August.
Here's the full list of results, and there's a stack of fantastic photos on the M20 Facebook.
