NSW Longboard Titles crowns first champions

The Australian Skin Cancer Clinics NSW Longboard Titles presented by HIF kicked off today in the Great Lakes region, with day one commencing in punchy two-to-three foot waves at the idyllic North Boomerang Beach.

Former event champion Daniel Bond (Blue Bay) claimed himself another NSW title when he nabbed victory across dual Over-65 Men finals. The Central Coast natural-footer linked together multiple righthanders, which allowed him to perform an eclectic mix of traditional manoeuvres. Lothar Fulder managed to claim the runner-up spot, while David Wilson took third.

Seven-time Australian Champion Richard Smith posted some of the highest scores of the morning, when he locked in 9.00 wave score (out of a possible ten points) in the first round of the Over-40 Mens. The Sawtell goofy-footer threw down a chain of lightening fast forehand wraps to notch up the score, which formed the majority of his 16.50 heat total (out of a possible 20 points).

Steve Mills (Byron Bay) and Jason Livingston (North Curl Curl) fought a tight battle over the course of the Over-40 Mens. Both surfers locked in a series of excellent scores, however Livingston was able to get the edge over Mills when he locked in 16.17 heat score.

Alan Atkins (Suffolk Park) blew away the judges in the Over-60 Mens division when he locked in an exceptional heat total of 17.17. Atkins left the rest of his opponents chasing a combination of scores to knock him from the top spot after he locked in 7.5 and 9.67 wave scores. As a result, Alan booked his spot straight into the quarterfinals.

All results will be available on surfingnsw.com.au tonight.
