I don't like Eddie Mcguire and don't know many people who do, unless you support the Pies.

It seems to me the comments eddie said about Caroline Wilson where obviously said as a joke and not meant to create such a backlash.

If Eddies comments were directed at a male reporter would there have been the same amount of anger towards eddie? I recon no one would have really cared. we are in a society that calls for equality however it seems there are always different rules for comments towards women compared to men.

Shes definitely a feisty character that girl.
The old retired footy players boys club are not a big fan of hers for sure. If a bloke wrote her articles would the response be the same, probably not.
I think its a combo of personal and gender dislike.

Would the reaction have been the same if it had been West Coast or Crows managers saying the same. Its just ****face McQuire, we all hate him and looking for ways to put his face in the ****pile.

Eddie is a w@nker with a history of this sort of sh!t.

Comments were completely unacceptable. Apology version 1 was p!ss weak.

I love how the holier than thou sponsors threaten to remove their support due to the inappropriate banter.

Naturally, not a peep from the Club sponsors until it all blows up.

The free publicity for Holden is top notch. Even the ABC, a reluctant brand name dropper, was mentioning Holdens' supposed disapproval across all it's platforms.

Eddie Bad. Holden Good.

No joking in Australia now, we are in an era of political correctness and preciousness.

And no, if it had of been about a male it wouldn't have made the media.

Well Caroline displays such negative comments in her writings, no person is spared and in some cases, just prints wild accusations some way close, but not actually the truth.
You reap what you sow. got all bent out of shape with connotations added to enhance her pitiful me scenario, and how much of terrible person Eddie was, along with his other two panellist.
I don't have any time for Eddie Everywhere, nor time for Wilson as a writer of good standings. Eddie is Collingwood and no other, Caro is Richmond and no other.
I think the ex Premier of Vic ol Geoff Kennett was some what correct in his summation of the situation, when interviewed with his slant on the topic. Storm in a teacup.
However right on the money when indication that one and all will want to make some mileage out of the topic for and against.

sorry mate you've lost me

If he said it about a white male footy player it would have been fine.

If he said it about a female he is criticised, and to say it reinforces acceptance of assaulting women is drawing such a long bow it is laughable. FFS it was pretty lighthearted

Forget the bloke and his failings and listen to what he said. It was nothing.

This (fairly) recent trend of the media beating such things up, a carefully scripted apology by the offender, and then forgetting it all, is become rather crass and pointless.
But if sells papers and telly, and feeds social media for idiots unfortunately.

Contrast:

Eddie: "har har if she stayed under I'd pay $50K to see that har har"

Female TV singing show judge looking at 18 y/o male with a 6pack and his shirt off: "eummm err ryeahhhhhh I'd like to see that again " wink wink.
Which is truly sexist....?
The latter happens all the time and if a 40 y/o male host talked about a 18 y/o female contestant being hot it would be another media beat up, with the requisite scripted apology.

Eddie Everywhere, as much as I dislike him, is a victim of this double standards crap.

First up, I don't like Eddie. He talks Sh1t as far as I'm concerned.

Eddie didn't say anything sexist!! The media are beating it up into that.

This is the whole Chris Gale thing over again.

The Media Suck .

Personally I think it's PC gone mad.

Recently a western Australian wanna be politician played the race, class, gender card saying she would be more representative of her constituents because a rich white man could understand the travails of ordinary Australians.

The politician in question just happened to be a self made man who had come from a foster home btw - a long way from "old money".

The comments went largely unreported.

However, as a female reporter in the west Australian pointed out, reverse the race, gender, class cards and imagine the furore. "What can a poor black single mother know about representing the ordinary Australians?"

I know which comment is going to cause the uproar.

Eddie is an idiot - don't get me wrong - but this smacks of political correctness and hypocrisy taken to extremes. It was a throw away joke and humour is almost invariably based around transgressing boundaries.

Wish I could remember the editorial in the West. It was only a few weeks ago and it was a great read.

Ps: I like Caroline Wilson more than Eddie because she at least has some journalistic integrity.

Pps: sharks need hugs too. ??

What is the value of an appology when you don't mean it!
Always remember long time ago told off my then 12 yo daughter she looked at me and said "sorry dad" and then came " iam sorry but in my head I think something" I said "what do you think?" she replyed ..................... you are a silly old bugger! Instant slap on the bum!
I would like to know what is in Eddie head when he says sorry! " Sorry not you ugly old bag.... would still drown you if I had the opportunity!"

Behaviour changes are far more meaningful than an insincere apology for sure.

If he said it about a middle class caucasian male it would have been fine. That's what we mean. There is that better.

I do not know that! I associate footy with exactly that kind of boofheadedness.

Footy is not where I have seen Eddie... I know who he is from that show, the one where he asks questions and pretends to know the answers, but can only pronounce the words with one syllable in the title... And not tricky words like "millionaire".

Not real big on Eddie either.

But his comment was aussie humour, not sexist and sure as hell nothing to do with violence against women (or condoning such).

So if Eddie said that about lets say a 27yo fella that for some reason Eddie doesn't like, fella is at the event hears it, follow Eddie outside and belts him. Fair enough he got what he was asking for. Now Caroline cant and wont do that. Fair or not fair??

Get a grip. Eddie sad the comments on a breakfast show joking around. If the comments were directed towards me I'd have a laugh about it and move on. How many people have you beaten up Darth?
