That means there is no way to tell the difference between an idea that 5 people support, and another where 5 people support it, and 5 people don't.

Come to thing of it, if 5 people like an idea, and 5,000 dislike it, you still get the same result. It is quite possible that hoards of seabreezers want to keep the red thumbs, and we won't even know!

Imagine our surprise to find an individual who's sole purpose was to red thumb people. From memory, over 2000 red's issued, and about 3 greens.

Hello Seabreeze,

You admit to knowing the culprit who's O.D.-ing on the reds ....

so turf him out already.

What's the problem ?

I think there's a secret agenda to this proposed change.

Fess up.

Why don't we also have a green thumbs award once a year where the winner gets a big green seebreeze T shirt for receiving the most green thumbs.

How about also prizes for members who reach certain milestones such as 1000 posts.

I'd love to see a list of users with the number of reds and greens they've received for the year.

Who do you think would top each list?

I still like having the red thumbs as it normally shows a general disagreement to a topic and makes you want to stop and read if you are scrolling through a thread.

Arrggh, feel so helpless already, like I have one arm (or thumb ) tied behind my back.

Don't really want to write a comment every time I want to register a differing opinion.

Keep the system as is, let us see who's thumbing the posts. And automate it: if anyone (Mr. A) red-thumbs a certain person (Mr. B) consistently, then Mr. B gets added to Mr. A's foe list and can no longer see their posts. Problem solved.

. . . . though given this place and it's denizens, I can image that leading to nobody being able to anybody else's posts

I choose to identify all the red thumbs I receive as green thumbs.

Apparently so long as I chose to identify as such nobody is allowed to boooo me.

Keep the port and starboard thumbs. You need both to navigate the responses.

Add a counter to each. Enable one to toggle a thumb on and off without affecting the other thumb, IOW cancel a vote without reversing it.

They disabled the down thumbs on YouTube and the comments are flooded with morons who have no way of knowing they are morons because they lack the mental capacity to understand anything more complicated than a thumb. Seabreeze has a duty of compassion to not interfere with the education of morons not to mention a clear social responsibility the Enlightenment values of democracy and free speech.

Couldn't agree more, just the thought of only being able to go in a circle is meaningless.

Perhaps just show for "up or down", %'ages only, no need for totals or limits.

How will I know if what I am saying is correct if the lefties can not red thumb me.

Can we get a tally of who was red or green thumbed the most please

Just generally assume you are wrong, and 'we' will be sure to let you know if you are right by way of a green thumb. It'll save us all a bit of time that way ;-p

I'll pay that Formula. It's ironic that some people confuse a right to an opinion with politically correct right vs left groupthink assertions.

Instead of removing the red thumbs all together, how about change the logic so that if you give a red thumb you have to explain why you red thumbed with a post/reply on the topic? the post should automatically link to the post you are red thumbing

But the greens don't?
That's still favoritism in one direction only, which I think is the root of the worthy debate.
