Hi folks,
the flight has been booked, a rough route examined and currently one question is left (sure there will be others), hope you can give some advise.

I will travel from Perth to Exmouth and back in december, mainly for visiting australia, go kiting and do some snorkeling. From where i come (europe) you always hear about the "dangerous and poisonous" animals in australia and i wanted to make some research first.Having that said i am optimistic about the numbers so i can deal with sharks, even if there are signs on the beaches etc. But what is worrying me a little are those Jelly Fishes, even because i read different things about it so far.

For example i read that you have to be carefull on easterly winds when the sea is calm and jellyfish come close to shore, but whats about kiting in good winds (which i expect to have over there ;) ), i would expect then those get washed in as well!?I am not planning to spend my whole time in water, but i wouldn´t want to go kiting with the requirement to not fall over a single time... ;)Do you wear complete wetsuits in that time of year, are you looking for local news and don´t bother if nothing is stated or are you just don´t recommend to go into northerly waters (around exmouth) around that time of year (which would be a pitty).

I am planning to bring some shoes and lycra shirt, but wearing a complete wetsuit in this temperatures seem a little much to me and even then there are still fingers and the head out.

Maybe i am also just to cautious, but if you find some time it would be great to hear from your experience.Cheers,
Clemens

I wouldn't worry about the really bad ones (Irukandji and Box) being south of Exmouth.
You might get a few blue bottles but they won't kill you. You'll just be uncomfortable for a while.
Boardies and a t-shirt is all that you'll need. (and maybe some vinegar )

"Box Jellyfish like to hang around river mouths, estuaries and creeks, especially after rain. When the tide is rising they tend to move towards shallower waters. What they don't like are deep waters and rough seas. They are also absent over coral reefs, and over areas that have lots of seagrass or weed."

Gidday Clemens,

Diving from Perth to Exmouth, apart from the 'roos, emus, cows, donkeys, camels, police, oversize trucks, road-trains, grey nomads, wicked campers and wedgies, there isn't much to worry about - its a pretty easy trip.

When you camp out overnight - keep clear of trees, it will be prime mating season for the drop bears and yowies - the males need to collect fresh meat for their mating ritual, but if you hang bacon outside they will [usually] take that in preference.

Keep your tent zipped up, and food stowed away off the ground - bungaras have learnt that tourists = tucker, and the ants are known to chew through the sides of eskys for a feed.

The sharks don't read the beach safety signs, so you can probably ignore the signs too / the crocs have scared most of the sharks out to deeper water anyway.

Jellyfish - not to worry, in most places the stingrays have thinned the numbers down, but if you do get stung - either apply liberal amounts of vinegar, or pee on it.

Enjoy yourselves, should be a trip to remember
