Hi, just wondering people's opinions. Is it better to buy a 1-2 year old kite thats been used heaps or a 3-5 year old kite that's been used not much. Both will be a similar price.
Do older kites that have been sitting around get bladder issues? Can't see much else that could be wrong.

better off buying an older model kite in less used condition bearing in mind the safety systems may not be the latest

A 4 year olds safety system shouldn't me much different. If I was learning id go the older kite. if you are wave riding go the newer.

Yes. Absolutely depending on a brand.

I have had no issues with My North and Ozone kites all about 2010-2011 acquired second hand. a few Best kites are another story! have stopped even considering them as the bladders seem crap compared to the others? plus i can buy bladders for the North and Ozone easy. i tried to get a leading edge bladder for the Best and it was extremely $$$$ and not worth the money?

Yeh replaced every single valve (with trap valves) on my bros 2010 fuse once. Bladders are fine it's the valves that went. Good thing they fixed these issues by 2012 and the fuse still flies today really well.

I heard that you do have one of the new large dump valves though.

Hmmm 5 years old may also be lacking performance/refinement.

Year on year there isn't much improvement. But 5 years I think there would be a noticeable performance difference.

I would aim for option 3. Aim to spend a bit more and get the newer kite with less usage.

I'd lean more towards the slightly newer... you don't want to spend much if the Kite has been thrashed no matter how old it is but I think the pre-2013 kites are supposed to be a big step behind where technology is at now... that would be my limit if looking at older kites.

Depends what you expect from a kite and the style you ride.
Unless I knew their preferences as a rider I couldn't give someone an answer to that question.
