Have been to Fiji Safari Lodge this year, not been to Cocos but have friends who have. I reckon if you live on the west coast go to cocos & if you live on the east coast, Fiji Safari Lodge is great. The reason is flight times really, Fiji is so close to the East coast of Oz.

We had a great time in Fiji, still waiting on pics from some of the crew who were there cause we were both on the water too much to take photos. We had good wind, not super windy the week we were there, but still had a great time, kited nearly every day.

The downwinders were excellent, if you want a hassle free holiday where you can kite when ever it is windy & have something fun to do if it isn't (SUP, kayak, snorkel, yoga, massage, hiking, fishing, wakeboarding) then Safari Lodge is well worth the one price covers all fee. 2 downwinders nearly every day, reef fishing trips, wakeboarding etc would cost alot if you had to pay for them on top of any other trip.

Regarding coral, yeah, total beginners can't kite out front of the resort, but to be honest the best kiting was on the downwinders anyway, heaps of room & it was nice and flat over & in front of the reefs. Anyone who can almost board start can do the downwinders, our 10 year old kited almost everyday, doing boat launches & getting picked up by the boat if he couldn't relaunch (on the lighter wind days).

Cocos I have heard has similar reef issues, but don't know from personal experience. Not sure how much there is to do for non kiting partners either, but might have to go some time when I have time for the longer flight.

Have Fun!
