I'm going back to the UK to visit the parents in August / september. I will go mad if I spend the entire three weeks there so was thinking of booking a european kite / beach trip. I will be the only kiter but my brother wants to learn, MY girlfriend is Australian so wants to see some european "culture" and we will have a 3 month old baby in tow.

Any recommendations? Waves would be a bonus but not essential

I am not taking my gear so will need to be able to rent as my luggage allowance is going to be taken up with prams, porta cots and breast pumps.

Plenty of cheap flights to fuerteventura from uk. I had a week there recently. The wind was crap by there standards, but I still got an hour so kite every day. I didn't get much swell, but you might be luckier! There's also pretty Spanish harbors at Cotillo and Corralejo that will impressive your girlfiend with great cafes and restaurants. However with a 3 month old baby in tow, you would want to make sure you booked somewhere with good facilities to stay or it could be a nightmare.

Good luck!

I’ve always enjoyed kiting around the Cyclades islands in Greece. If you’ve got the family in tow, then you might want to have a look at Mykonos which has got plenty of stuff for the family, an airport with quite a few flights going in and out, and kite Mykonos has gear to rent (The wind blows directly onshore here, which makes it a bit harder on the newbie). There’s plenty of accommodation available near the kite beach too.
Another option is Paros, which is a slower paced island compared to Mykonos, there’s couple of large kite schools there, flat water, with a cross-shore wind.
The locals mainly use their 5’s and 9’s, so there is some wind in the Cyclades, no real waves though. September is a good month because the weather is great (Chance of rain - almost zero), the water temps are at their warmest, and the summer peak tourist season is over.

What about Germany or Holland? Don't have to go so far. The north sea is pretty good.

Tiree island , you get there by ferry, takes around 3 hrs, some wicked spots , waves , flat water, a bit of a Mecca for uk kiters, but due to its remote location you won't be crowded, also the gower peninsular, the uk has a heap of good spots , and cold water

Sardinia, best food and wine in Europe, tranquil places and beaches and some of the best kiting spots ever. can send you details via PM. Last month has been very wet almost everywhere in Europe but by end of August / September it should all be sweet. Nothern part of Europe might indeed be good but I doubt September is the perfect time so going south would probably be safer.

+1 for Sardinia. I think the South-East suits perfectly for your request. I know there are schools which arrange accommodation/ gear rent etc.
Otherwise have a look on Portugal or Andalucia in Spain.

Hi , I spent 2 weeks in Tarifa (Spain) in 2013 during September and kited every day . The wind kicks in at about 2pm and we were still kiting at 9:00pm. There is great accommodation on the beach but always busy on the weekends. I hired some gear from one on the many shops there - gets cheaper the longer you hire. Fantastic spot to do side trips as well up to Cadiz and across to Morocco.
