Start your engines!

The info from last year's series is here: http://www.nswkba.com.au/events?eventId=229689&EventViewMode=EventDetails

And I assume the good folks at NSWKBA will be posting details for this year's events "real soon"

Thanks Galah, Jono from NSWKBA is overseas at the moment but assures me that he can update the website from over there. That's dedication for you!

Hey Graeme thanks for the update, we'll be there!
Any more info about the race set up or is it all decided and explained on the day?

Briefing before the first race of each day. Races to be held, wind permitting, every second Saturday over summer. Six race days in total.

Prizes to be announced soon.

Thanks to everyone who turned up on Saturday in anticipation for the start of the 2011 Cabrinha Kite Race Series. Unfortunately Mother Nature couldn't find it in her heart to provide us with enough wind to run a race.

The dead onshore easterly teased us for a few hours but failed to deliver.

We did, however, fill ourselves with food from the BBQ and cold drinks thanks to NSWKBA.

Let's hope we have a better day in 2 weeks time.

Yeah, mega thanks to everyone that turned up to help and with a hope to do some racing. The wind sucked us in there for about 20 mins but as soon as I put 2 buoys out it dropped, and stayed below 10 knots.
At least we know the spot will work well and will be away from the tide that makes Dolls extra choppy and not good for racing.

Here's some pics, the last one is a picture of a tool (blunt).

I love the homemade board, with the retractable centreboard. looks like my pizza cutter. Does it cut up wind well.

After a poor start, not because of lack of enthusiasm but lack of wind, we are on again this Saturday, 5th November. Same time, same place.

The forecast, at this stage is looking good. Laurie has sent us some green arrows so get down there and sign up.

Yep

Is the fin/daggerboard symmetrical or do you flip it around when you tack? How do you stop it sliding down on downwind legs?

Looks like a fun and more accessible option for those not interested in full-on course boards.

Yep it is symmetrical, hand shaped from a piece of 100x10 aluminium flat bar had lying around.

The shock cord holds pressure on the center board when pulled up so it kinda jams in the housing.
Although when you get going fast on a broad reach it can kinda rattle around a bit with water gushing up around it, if it falls down the board wants to shoot up wind, gets a bit ugly (outa control) so some fine tuning is needed.

had a blast at the race day on the weekend, i got a raceboard and this was my second time using it...what a handful!

the le mans start is pure mayhem but exciting, everyone should come by and have a go its not about winning, the whole experience is great being on the water with lots of other kiters getting around a course as fast as possible :)

i have some video ill be putting together this week hopefully.

watch at 1:16 for a little carnage, this was the worst that happened out of all the races so its pretty safe starting from the beach either go hard or hang back!

Round 2 was a great success again. The wind gods co-operated eventually, we had 16 competitors and were better organised, these are the results after 2 rounds.
We will upload a full review later this week.

The beach start might be better with the riders spaced out along the waters edge and a runner running upwind to touch each one to start them?
