Hello everyone! I'm Penny and i recently arrived from Greece in order to study in the university of Sydney! While studying is good, it cannot compete with kitesurfing. However, since it costs a lot to move all my gear here, i'm hoping that someone can respond and tell me how's the winds around here, so that i can decide what kite i should buy! Also, any good spots to suggest? Generally, i weight as much as a feather does and back home i used a slingshot Rally 8m, but only if the wind was below 5.5bfts! Anyway glad to be here and cannot wait to start kitesurfing in the ocean!!

Hi penny, welcome to Aus. Sydney isn't renowned for it's consistent winds, I suggest checking out Perth and WA where they get great winds around 5bfts...

Hi Penny
Welcome to Sydney. While our winds here in Sydney are not as consistent as in WA. We do get some good seabreezes in summer about 3 or 4 days a week on average. We normally work in Knots not beauforts here so it might help you to start getting your head around that. The summer seabreezes are usually around 15 to 25 Knots (4.8 bfts to 6.5bfts ) with the occational day in the low thirties(7btfs). Winter (now) is pretty bad and the wind is either very light or crazy strong.
Most people run a two kite quiver. I have a 11m and a 7m. Most of the girls have 9m and 6m or there abouts.
Try looking up S.U.C.K (Sydney Uni Crazy Kiters) On facebook and meeting up with some of the other Uni Kiters.
Most people Kite around Botany Bay and Cronulla. You can Kite on the northern beaches but the wind doesn't seem to come in there as well as it does on the southside.
Please don't go kiting at bondi it's banned there and it could lead to trouble. Also have a look at www.nswkba.com.au for locations ect.
Might be a good idea to drop by the Kitepower shop on botany bay to meet some of the younger crew
