Hi, I am a windsurfer and now I am moving back to Kitesurf too. Next month I will attend a kite school in Sardinia with my wife and we bought a set of Kites from a shop here in Netherlands that was running out of business. I bought a North Neo 2011: 7, 9 and 12mt + 1 north pump + 2 North 2011 bars (4 lines). I paid everything brand new 2,000 $ which is an absolutely deal. Now I am wondering if the Neo is a good kite for my wife, she never kitesurf and she will attend a full IKO course next month. Also, what size of board should I buy for her? She is 1,60 mt and 60 kg

The 9m Neo will be perfect for your wife to learn on. The original intent of the Neo was to build a light stable kite for beginners that is easy to relaunch. For a 60kg rider North recommend 130 or 133 cm. For a beginner board stick to something like the north cross ride as it will be easier for your wife to perform transitions and stay up wind.

Great, I was thinking about getting the Gonzales 2011 143cm. She did some windsurf with me in the past but she is not confident on a board so I guess 143 will be good for light winds. I just hate to waste money on a board that will be ridden for only two months, while if she gets on a 130, we can share the same board.

Would you suggest something like a 140 for both of us? I am 70kg 172cm and she is 60kg 160cm

Neo is one of our favorite allround kites. We use the Neo for lessons and it is really nice. As a matter of fact it is that nice that North based the development of 2013 Vegas on the Neo. :) i reckon get her a 129 or 130cm board. Will be spot on for her, especially in a few months when she advances

Yep. I guess wasting 300 bucks on a "deal" 145 board will be useless in few months while during August the kite school will provide a wider board to learn on. How hard is to learn on a surfboard with footstraps instead of learning on a kiteboard?

Definitely don't learn on a surf board, way too hard. Even good twin tip ridders take a while to learn how to ride on a surf board. Stick to a 133-135cm board for you and 129-133cm board for your wife.

Thanks JY, I guess the surfboard will be the challenge for the next summer!
