All,

I, and I suspect a few of you, got a letter from Cottesloe Council as an update on the proposed new local law for kiting and windsurfing restrictions at 'Telephone Box' (Deane Street) and making Dutch Inn an official area last week.

The letter said the area to launch and set up "sailing craft" would be restricted to between Rosendo and Princes streets - that is, the strip from the stairs immediately south (just past the big dune) of where everyone currently congregates at Telephone Box, to just north of the Dutch Inn playground.

"Users of sailing craft and sailboards will be permitted to use this area for set up, beach launch or use of their water raft in water but not permitted to use all other beach foreshores," the letter reads.

There was no mention if the windsurfers absolutely will not be allowed infront of the playground, which stretches from Princes St up to about Beach Street.

It was not said whether "all other beach foreshores" comprises the rest of the 4.5km of beach in the Town of Cottesloe, including, those local kiters and poleys now using the South Cottesloe dog beach (near Deep Six), the occasional kiter at North Cottesloe, and those launching just before Swanbourne Beach for downwinders.

I shall seek to clarify that this week, so hold your horses and comments for a more informed time, please.

The letters said the council got a large number of public submissions which are still being assessed.

Councillors will briefed on the proposed new law at the May 17 briefing forum, before considering it at the full council meeting on May 24.

Just read thread about it an a thread in the poley section, and they have got a reply form the council a few days ago implying the Princes St boundary mentioned was an administrative error when the letter was drafted, and they always intended the Dutch Inn Groyne.
I will still seek a clarification, however.

So does that mean that general public will be excluded from the kiting area?
