I'll be heading home for a few weeks between the 5th and 27th of September. I'll be around Gerroa, Gerringong, and can make it down to Jervis Bay if I absolutely must.
Will the wind be any good, or am I too early in the season? Worthwhile taking my gear?
You may be lucky. A bit early for nor-easters but the odd southerly may come through. Still on the coolish side.
Hmm, I only have space for one board. Would it be better to bring my foilboard or my nugget? Given that you're saying its most likely light winds, I'm thinking the foil might be more useful...
Not necessarily light wind but punchy southerlies. If you're at Gerroa are you happy with the foil in surf? If not go the Nugget.
Hey KIT33R, sorry to piggy back on this, but I'm going to the G'Gong in early Nov. Any thoughts on what the wind will be like then, please?
Wind is becoming consistent seabreeze sort of pattern by November.
Expect kiteable NE'ers for a few days, southerly change and then a rest day. This cycle happens weekly.
Plenty of kiteable days in Nov. Bring kites for sure. Locals can be very aggressive.

Surfingboye is correct. The nor'east sea breeze is back in November. Gerroa is usually windier than most spots. The northern corner is a bit cross off and gusty. Windsurfers prefer this spot. Downwinders to Shoalhaven Heads are awesome here. Just have a car pick-up. I've mostly kited midway down the beach where there is a substantial car park with showers. Wide beach for rigging and usually small uncrowded surf.
Thanks Gents. As a Victorian kiter, the prospect of a 'pattern' to wind is quite an unusual one... Typically it's somewhere between 0 and 55knots (no kidding, check out yesterday's chart) and can spin 180 in 10mins.
I'll take every kite and board I own! Biggest kite is a 12m with a directional. Will that be sufficient? What would be the smallest kite you'd expect to see out? 8m?
The sea breeze usually kicks in around 1:00pm. It can be earlier at Gerroa. I've rarely ridden Gerroa on anything bigger than my 8m. Just seems to get the wind.
Here's a Seabreeze thread with video from last year.

Nah it's not the best for the general wind direction. Kiteable sometimes though.
I'd be heading to Culburra (beach or lake) or the Currarong stretch.
Or if you like chop, maybe try Husky/Vinnie.
