Hi guys, battling light winds at the moment. Considering getting a North Nugget, but how user-friendly would a directional be for a beginner? Already have a Zephyr but it's still not enough, my board is only a 135 North X-ride (65kg rider). Winds rarely above 13knots...
A north nugget will be good to learn on but different from a TT. And it will also work well in light winds.
I started on a TT and within three months switched to surfboards/directionals and have never gone back.
North Nugget is ideal directional for a beginner. Great flotation and upwind ability means its easy to use and to learn to gybe (eventually). A newbie buddy (very keen surfer) started using one around his 6th session and has never gone back to a TT. I also use my Nugget most of the time now as it is so versatile.
Went out on my 7'2" mini mal today to see how I'd go riding strapless. To my surprise had no trouble getting up, edging, etc. The biggest drawback was the size once I was off and floating around with it. Now I'm considering saving money and just using the mini mal on those light wind days (every bloody day), or can anyone convince me to do otherwise?
I'm a keen Nugget rider and have also played around on a 8ish foot mal a few times in light wind which was a bit of fun
Unless the cash is gunna hurt get the nugget, it does everything the mal might , just much better, it's chalk and cheese, the mal just isnt designed like a kite board
Nugget is an awesome board and very beginner friendly as a directional. First time I stood on a directional was the new nugget and I got used to it very quick. The extra flotation helps 'push' against your legs so you don't fall off as quickly. It's a superb board as any owner will tell you (I'm not one of them yet).

+1 Great board - my first ever turn was on the Nugget! Takes a bit to get used to as a lot more weight on the front food, but very forgiving!
