Just a reminder to keep an eye out on the beach when you're out kiting. Some Kiter's had their bagged checked yesterday while they were on the water and some car keys were taken.

Not sure how secure they are but the 'padlock' car key thing has been good to me..

some of them are pretty awful. My Ex girlfriend's family used to have one for their holiday house, and put tension on the unlock button and span the dials, they would spin to the correct position and then get stuck, due to the tension... (she was still my girlfriend when I found that out. Nothing suss.)

they just need a clean and lube every now and then (not talking about your girlfriend)

Hey Guys,

So, read this thread when if first went up but didn't think too much into it. Then....

Last Thursday went out in Port Melbourne around 3.15pm. (I use a key-safe on the tow bar with the key to the canopy of my ute in it. Then I lock my car key in the canopy). Did this then went out on the surfboard for about an hour in the shore break then tacked down to St. Kilda and back.

5pm landed the kite and went to my ute to towel off. Opened the canopy and threw the key safe in there. Walked back down to the beach to grab my kite and packed it up on the grass, the ute now in sight. Got changed and jumped in the car and drove home (two blocks away).

On Sunday went to play a few holes of golf. Opened the back and realised my clubs were not there.... Long story short.... Someone must have watched me throw the key safe in the back of my ute and grabbed it when I walked down to grab my kite. They also grabbed a watch, sunnies and unfortunately a change or rego form with my details filled in on it. They must have cut the key safe open and then drove to my address over the weekend, opened the back and nicked a nearly new set of golf clubs and bag.

Strangely enough they didn't touch ANY of my kite gear twin tip, surfboard, 3 kites.... I can only assume that they have learned that its impossible to offload kite gear because the community here reports stolen gear and shady offers so well.

Anyway, just thought I'd share. Watch your gear out there guys. Scumbags are watching.

Happy Christmas!!! :)

Even with modern electronic car keys you can still get many cut without the electronics, they will manually open the door but obviously can't start the car. Put onto a shoe lace and wear it around your neck, job done. I have done this for VW and Honda, beats leaving a key "hidden" somewhere.

Best to get cut at a proper locksmith, cost me $35 for the last one. Some car makes include a skeleton key that will do the trick.

I lent a mate a set of golf clubs. Still have not got them back. Probably never will get them back. We must be vigilant at all times.

Interesting update on this... Put an ad up on Gumtree giving a cash reward for the return of the gear... Long story short, got me clubs back. Turns out ice junkies are dumb as ****. I'm amazed that they hand their **** together enough to rob them in the first place.
