I'm sorry to say but the cult of Sunova is destroying this section. What was once an interesting and informative section is now dull and boring with the same fan base pushing Sunova.

I own a Sunova and rate the build, the looks and they way they surf..but please it is getting ridiculous. Sunova are not better than the myriad of other brands.

I once came her daily and loved to read new posts..now it is the opposite.

Yeah it has got a bit ridiculous IMO. Excessive pimping is actually counter-productive anyway. Customers don't like having something rammed down their throats, as this thread highlights.

I agree -- wanted a Jimmy Lewis Striker for wife but also a few comparisons : imagine icon, starboard, coreban, naish and Deep any other locals. NEED an allround -- flatwater cruising with small mellow wave "stoke"

Any comparisons will help -- around 9'5" with some glide and stable

I guess I am guilty of pimping Sunova, but for what it is worth, I have zero financial interest. I have 10 boards and four are Sunova. They seem to have a model in every possible shape you can imagine so they tend to fit a lot of the questions that come up. But I won't say any more or I'll be pimping again

But if Bert offers me a glass of Sunova cordial I'll know its gone too far

FFS...
It's a board talk forum, people can talk about their boards as much as they want.

When I starting paddle boarding 6 or so years ago, most board brands were selling new boards for $1,500 AUD to $1,750. So when looking for a new board you'd go to the forum and speak about what you were interested in and post stuff you had tried and were happy with.

Now, you look at Starboard, Fanatic and Naish and their quality boards are all pushing close to $3k. As much as I might like the look of some of the shapes on offer, there is now way I'm paying $3k for a new board. Sunova on the other hand have an expanding range of light, strong and well built boards for pretty close to $2k.

When it comes to my next board, Sunova is top of my list, along with a lot of other board riders I speak to. Perhaps the emphasis on Sunova in the forum is a reflection of what people want, well built boards that don't break the bank (or risk your marriage).

Riders are voting with their wallets and happy to wax lyrical about the results.

Yes, but they should be careful to not say that "X is the best" when actually they did not have any experience with most of the other brands.

Especially since, when we are satisfied with our boards we lose the incentive to try the other ones...

What a load of bollox. This is a forum about board reviews and there might be a bit of a Sunova love-in right now as they might be the brand of the moment but last year it was all about Deep Oceanboards especially the Minion. The interesting thing is that Sunova don't spend anything on marketing compared to the big brands but are getting a lot of air time here from people who have spent their hard earned $$$ on a board that is proving to be an excellent choice...which it is. The forum could be full of Starboard fan boys so at least it's not that bad yet.

There is always the other SUP forum section to check out too.

When I was searching for a new board I came here for the excellent comments and reviews, turned out I liked Sunova and bought a Speeed on the back of all the excellent information posted.

But brands come and go in phases, if I'd been here last year I may have bought another brand, who knows.

UK based where we have all the top brands and passionate locals who build thier own too, so plenty of choice here.. just fell in love with Sunova.

Sunova just happens to be the talk of the town right now. last year it was Minions...so it goes. use your built-in filters. And coming to these forums daily is not something that can be justified in the long haul. Over time, we realize less and less new material is available, and a lot of rehashing occurs. I used to visit kiteforum several times a day...now it's a few times a year. and when i go there i still see the same old questions being asked: what's the best ____ for _____?

If people write and talk about a brand or board type more often and it's not pushed by the dealer, admin or the brand then there must be a good reason.

If if we can't buy boards because they cost about 3000€ then we talk about boards that we can offer.

As board purchasers we SUP people are quite lucky really........the boards might be coming out of big factories.......but there are opportunities to read about other people's opinions and experiences. Who on earth would want to gag people and say "don't talk about the board you have purchased and are enjoying riding?"

Could not agree more G-NZ. I have read this thread quite a few times today and have had to stop myself from responding.........clearly I have failed.
I even went back and re-read this section of Seabreeze "Board Talk and Reviews" just to make sure I was not confused with the heading and its purpose.
SUP'ers are a very passionate group and this passion flows out in this section and in the General section. I am also guilty of letting my passion flow on some of the boards I use. I doubt that any of this passion is linked to trying to force/convince anyone to buy a certain brand board. It simply provides the readers of this section the opportunity to hear the many and varied views that people have had on certain board types and brands.
Sunova is clearly a hot topic and I do not yet have one, but I intend to at some stage and I am always very interested in what everyone has to say and I love it more when it is written with passion and excitement. As StevO said - last year it was very much a "Deep" year and next year it may well be another brand that captures peoples imagination and passion.

I simply say - keep it coming and if I don't like the thread I won't read it.

As long as there is no vested interest then people should chat about what they want. Sunova wouldn't be talked about so much if they weren't an excellent product. Are we going to ban talking about SIC as well as they get plenty of threads?

I don't think the OP was suggesting censorship, was he? just maybe a rationalisation of the multiple threads - keep all the info together in one place. This isn't a new complaint anyway - When SIC had the FX coming out and there were pages of speculation, there were various complaints about that - and it was only one thread. I'd rather read anything than nothing, personally, but I can see the merits in having a "Sunova thread" (or SIC thread, or whatever) to avoid multiple concurrent separate threads about every model in a range. But then again, it doesn't bother me much one way or the other...

Too be honest Sunova quietly go about their business of producing great shapes at a reasonable price. Their riders want to share the stoke that's all. Last year it was Fanatic, before that it was NAISH, before that it was Starboard, Before that it was PSH.

i haven't seen much blatant pimping of Sunova on here but their riders are loving them So you can't knock that. Maybe in a couple of years their prices will go up, move production to China and start making **** overpriced, outdated , poor quality boards like some of the competition, we can only wait and see.

enjoy while you can still afford one

I have the 9 5 Striker....I wouldn't want to flat water cruise with it....just too slow. Great otherwise....most likely be on it tomorrow...surfs up!

I had an 11 4 Nalu...that was a great board and was okay fir a little cruise too...the 10 6 would do all that great......and I have had a shot of a Starboard Drive and liked that too...Surfs easy......maybe too easy.

Should also add..I don't have a Sunova but would like one.

one friend has a Speeed and the other is expecting a Style next week....I may try the Style

I wonder if burleighlocal is actually a very clever Sunova dealer.

Anyway it could be worse ... golfers have hijacked the longboard forum.

I think the efforts the Sunova team makes in both spending its energy on technical (manufacturing and rinding), and explaining them in posts like these:
www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Stand-Up-Paddle/Review/Sunova-Search-or-Venture-140/
or Bert Burger videos: Search "Bert Burger Sunova" on Vimeo
is a great part of makes this brand valuable, in my opinion more helpful to the sport than any rider of event sponsorship.

Disclaimer: I do not own a Sunova :-)

To be honest I take the board review section with a pinch of salt... Pretty much 99% of reviews are over the top positive. That's cool as I am the same after getting a new board and feel somewhat required to say how good it is to justify the purchase... It would be refreshing to see someone say some honest negative comments about their current board...I'm wary of opinions of guys who jump from one brand to another spruking how wonderful each and every board is... Easy to read between the lines and see that there is some sponsorship deal going on...

Jumped from Naish x 32 to Sunova and no sponsorship going on unfortuanally .
The x 32 was on this forum a lot, for me reason to buy back than.
Boards come and Go but Sunovas construction and shapes are very good and that makes me a happy customer.

sorry if I was a little to happy
