hi there!!

I´m looking foward to increase my quiver with one of these new sup designs.

Intermediate skills (comfortable in every condition with my hokua 9´5 gt, 140 liters) 75-80 kg, beach breaks with max of doble over head faces

I do not have any chances of try one first. BTW i think thar the one i buy is going to be the first one here in the region (uruguay, argentina and brasil)

If any of you had the chance to ride both, or just point the big differences between them i will appreciate so much.

I´m looking at de Raptor 7´0 x 28 (95 liters) vs Jp 7´2 x 28 (103 liters)

The smallest sup i have tried was a Fanatic Prowave 8´5 with 109 liters, i tried it in perfect conditios and had no problem with (BTW excellent sup)

Well, thanks a lot everybody!!! big waves and strong wind for everybody!!!

well reading over the web now i have an other problem (if not knowing wich new toy to buy is consider a problem, ;)jejeje)

i read that with this designs you should go smaller than you think you could handle.

I KNOW i could handle in perfect conditions (4-5 feet faces, glass or wind less than 5 knots) a fanatic prowave 8´5 with 109 liters

i was considering buying the 7´2 x 28 jp (103 liters) and a little affraid about the raptor 7´0 x 28 (95 liters)

if that premise of going even samller is true, now i could consider the 7´2 x 26 or the Raptor as well.

Anyone could help me???

Hey NACHOSUP,

I think you will be fine on the Naish RAPTOR Small. It will be tricky in super choppy conditions but what shortboard isn't. I am 6'2" and 95-96kg and can get away with riding the small even with my weight matching the volume, they are incredibly stable. this being said though, I do prefer the Medium as i am far more comfortable on it. At 75-80kg you'll easy handle. They will be in stock in some stores round Oz at Easter, but there is a few samples floating round, probably best is to try get on one first, or wait til the first shipment comes in.

Hope this helps,

Ride safe,

JB

Read up on the other threads here about the minion and surf slate, that should get you plenty of things to think about.

Here is a pic of me riding the Medium at last weeks SPSC comp at Cooks terrace. very small powerless waves, the board went well. Such a speed machine.

have you tried them both Piros ? ,

to me looks like the Naish would be a great windy / choppy day board - looks very stable

while the JP looks like it would be great in ideal conditions - unfortunately we don't get to many of those days here

wondering how do you find the stability front to back after being on a traditional board ?

So Rob are u saying that you favour the JP? or that the Naish stands on its own and the JP needs propping up?

Haha Scotty there is actually 2 people hiding behind the Naish No Tassie haven't tried the Naish might give it a blast this weekend. Re the JP that is the 28 wide and it keeps it width along way up so it's alot more stable than it looks.I'm 88 kegs at the moment and really comfortable on it. I have set up and really cool camera on the Slate which sits up waist high and set a few few back so hopefully score some vision this weekend.

I bet both of them are daft prices so many will only ever demo them! Both look like they keep parallel rails to the nose well....it is just one is longer than the other. What might be more interesting is what is on the bottom.

Hey Zeus try the 5-2 diet mate works a treat

What might be more interesting is what is on the bottom.

Slab the JP is pretty tame underneath compared to some of the boards I have tested , slight channels on the nose and tail , pretty soft single concave to a shallow double concave and only a slight V through the tail and keeps a bit more width towards the nose , helps heaps with stability and keep the straighter rail profile . The rocker profile is also pretty tame with just and extra kick on the nose and tail . Like all the other JP pros zero cant and toe in the fins give it plenty of juice down the line.

The the big difference between the Slate and all the others the shallow V and it seems to work really well. The Cons of the shallow V it does put more pressure on your fins as a larger V rolls the board onto the rail that's why I ride it a full 5 fin. The Con of the deeper V on choppy days it blows a lot of air around the fins and makes the board really skatey. Just my personal experience maybe not the norm for others.

Hey Rob, Thanks for the pics and details on your fin setup. Hope you get some clean conditions to go with your new cam setup. Sounds like it should give a much better "point of view".

Cheers

Hi again.

The univers is ok with me, because:

1-my uncle is in Miami and he could bring a new sup for me
2-it seems that tomorrow the Jp will be in sotck there
3-the most difficult part: my wife give me the "ok you can have a new board" (lets see how much it cost later, jejeje)

Well, the anxiety is going to kill me. Only tomorrow i will know if there is stock of the jp.

Now Please PIROS, you have ride them both, so before i pull the trigger,( if you want, send me an email. Ignacio@fortex.com.uy)

wich is better???? Raptor or JP ??? i will go with the jp 7´2 x 28¨ , 103 literes as i think it will be doable, but if you tell me that the Raptor 95 liters is waaay better, it could wait.

Thanks a lot everybody

Two completely different boards , the JP is way more performance based and still very stable (28 wide) The Raptor was a really fun and easy to ride board but no where near the performance of the JP. If you just want a fun board for small days the Raptor fits the bill and is easier to ride than the JP. Depends what you are after......if you want to push the envelope go the JP , check out Keahi's shots below he is on the 26 wide.

No I was on the 31 the one in the pic , just another bit of feedback on the Raptor you seem to ride a bit more like a mal really heavy on the back foot , seems strange for a board that shape but this might suit some riders who don't have the knees to smash it around anymore.

Yup, from the pics I would guess the Naish allows to be turned at slow speeds, foot on the leash plug without bogging down, making it the perfect alternative to longboards on weak waves, whereas the JP loves to be put into high gear.

so the raptor 28 wide should be close to the performance of the JP 28 wide ?

I haven't seen it so can't comment , it will be 2 inch shorter than the JP and going by the 31 plan shape it will probably have a more fuller outline.

I think without riding the boards, it will be impossible to accurately make an assessment. I have ridden both the Small and the Medium Raptors, and they're awesome fun. A little as Colas mentioned, they are flatter and straighter in the outline than most of the other boards of similar design. The RAPTOR is different in design brief and intention. It has amazing paddle speed for such a short board, goes ridiculously fast and turns on a dime even in slop which most boards would struggle to stay on the wave. It does surf bifferent to a shortboard, I feel it's more like a Mini-Simonds or Keeled Twin feel. It fits into Naish's range perfectly. Again without riding it, my thoughts on the JP (which looks like an awesome board) is that it has more rocker and is directed more towards a shortboard feel.

We will hopefully have the first shipment of Raptors in Australia in a month. Most dealers have grabbed a quiver, it is well worth a try!

I apologize for the jerky editing, was trying something different (trying to be arty). But this day was onshore 10-15kts, and about knee to waist high. I am riding the RAPTOR Medium (7' x 31" x 4" @116ltrs). I am 6'2" and 96kgs.

Enjoy, Ride Safe,
