Whats your thoughts on feet postion on a "wider" board in the surf? Wide apart or closer together as in say 100 mm between your ankles / Or is it just what works for you???
How must elaborate your question... I have a hard time picturing surfing with the feet 100mm apart... except for hanging ten?
Hey colas, Well Im just asking where others find where best suits there feet postioning. I normally have my feet closer to the rail edge on each side but have seen footage of guys paddling with their feet quite close together. Just wondering if some find you can keep better balance on a say 30" wide 8'5 board being wider or closer together. ( im talking inbetween waves of course- not riding the wave )
Narrow - hybrid stance specially if your board is small
On wider boards is not that critical
I found it the hard way when I swapped to a 7'7x27
Ok can someone please explain hybrid stance.
I've been standing facing forward with feet side by side. Looking for some way to improve stability while paddling and waiting in the lineup.

I'm thinking they mean staggered stance..
I like a medium stance: not close enough to be unstable, not wide enough for the feet to be on the downwards slope of the rails. I guess 1' between the feet.
I feel too wide a stance is less stable: slight unbalances put a lot of leverage quickly on the board as the foot can apply more torque.
And if conditions not perfectly clean, a bit staggered, rear foot 10-20cm to the rear.
I find shoulder width is about right just like a golf setup, i've seen a few guys that are a lot wider but i find this less stable, IMO you need to be relaxed in the legs ready to make adjustments smoothly, its impossible to be relaxed when too wide.....defo no more than shoulder width for me:)....with a slight stagger when needed as Colas has mentioned
I have tried all different stances at rest. It depends on what is comfortable foremost. Not only width but forward or backward of the board too.
It is you & only you who can decide.
Some people have more right leg domination & some left. That meaning some will fall off their boards more to the right or left so must make adjustments accordingly.
Find your sweet stance spot.
