Certainly looks like a Meyerhoffer.Everything old is new again. They never really took off as a prone surfboard, see how they go as a sup.

Looks like Starboard made an attempt to produce a professional looking video.....

except the spokesman stumbled all over himself when talking about the design,,.
and the "action" videos they chose to showcase the performance of the "Nut" on a wave... didn't.

I just don't get it.... why is it so hard to get useful info from the people that build SUPs

I have seen a MeyerHoffer longboard on one of my breaks in the French riviera... the guy was having fun.

I agree with supthecreek however, the video does a disservice to the shape. It conveys the impression that the rider is bothered by all this volume up there on the nose, and try to keep the nose out of the water at all times. Maybe they choose a type of wave not adapted to the design?
You end up wanting to take out a saw and make a "Minion" out of it to put the rider out of his misery :-)

Hi All; Have a model of the older more radical style 9'6" Meyerhoffer and as a surfboard its different in that there is heaps of drive off the tail as mine has a manta-ray drawn out tail. You dont notice that wide nose all that much the part you do however is the pulled in middle section which is designed to stop rails from catching. Makes carrying the board easy but. The widest part of the board is backwards of centre a design used in early longboards.

Lovin that Cape Cod Bay Challange t-shirt. Great to hear from a MH rider. No nose riding in either vid. Why? Why? Why?

They are in Victoria in the Starboard demo fleet right now. Think they are in Torquay tomorrow, somewhere on the Peninsula on Thursday. Melbourne all other times through to Sunday.

Tomorrow? Crikey, where was the notice? Thanks for the heads up woody. I'm out with a drilled ear, anyway.

i might observe that I love my starbys, but it seems a tad ridiculous that starby dont seem to be involved in the sup demo day in Torquay on dec 6th. Richie has every other board under the sun there. I understand the situation to a degree, but it's a shame we don't get to compare starbys with the other brands at the same time. There would be a lot of Torquay, geelong and melb crew keen to try the starbys in some surf, I would expect.

ce la vie.

Tang - Sorry to hear about the ear drilling. Good luck with the healing! Still working on pics of the low volume Crocs.

Cheers.

Got to paddle the Nut in the flats of HMB today - good fun, but obviously not what it's made for. We may try to twist Scott's arm and take a couple of these boards down to the SUP VIC surf comp day at Point Leo on Sunday.

So what are peoples thoughts after demoing them? What size did you ride? Conditions? Nose rideable?

Hi Tang

I now have the Starboard 9'5" x 29" Carbon Nut and as of today the Nut is in my ever increasing Demo fleet.

My shop is located at 2365 Pt Nepean Rd Rye, practically opposite the pier.

Anyone keen to demo this board in Victoria please dont hesitate to get in contact with me.

We have demo days every other Sunday on the East side of the Sorrento Sailing Club pier.

Alternatively you can hire the board and I will discount the hire from a purchase.

Going on Scotty's preference for this board in our Peninsula beach breaks, I am on this board the next off shore day.

My Starboard demo fleet now has The 9'5" Nut a 'Whopper' a 14' All Star and a 10'5 x 32 Widepoint all from the 2015 range.

Regards

Jack

Finally some good surf yesterday on the 9'5 Starboard Nut.

This is my first SUP board review and I hope it quenches a small thirst of interest some readers may have on the 9'5 Nut.

After a long period of crappy surf down here in Victoria seeing 2-3' of swell, a perfect off shore wind on an incoming tide and the Nut in the van I felt like I had won the lottery.

Paddling the nut is a treat. After playing around on 8' and sub 8' boards that tend to use up my energy getting around the line up, getting back on an easy paddler was very pleasant indeed.

On my forehand the 9'5 Nut transitioned from bottom turn to a high line in a flash and felt very natural.
Whilst maintaining a high line with a few accelerating mid face bottom turns the nut went very quickly and felt very responsive.
I believe the side cut design is contributing to the ease of acceleration in this speed pump situation.

The small top turns on the 'Starboard Nut' influenced a new sensation of dropping my rear knee towards the completion of the turn which is something I am looking forward to playing with in future surfs on this board.

On the backhand waves I have so far surfed on 'The 9'5 Nut' I found my feet positioning close enough too 'spot on' after my bottom turn. This may be due to the shorter board tail design with less surface area that seems more forgiving on your foot positioning for going back up the wave on your heals on your backside.

On the small sections of the wave running up the nose and surfing the nose pod section of this board is a great sensation and something I am looking forward to exploring more.

I find 'The Nut' an exciting design for SUP due to its practical volume, stability and turning ability.
The boards narrow realistic surf tail and ease of paddling is a refreshing change from the hyped Vanguard style, wide tail sups that seems to be gripping the smaller wave areas of our Australian coastline.

After two surfs in one day on this board on two completely different breaking waves I think this board is a great option for SUP riders with a prone surfing background or as an alternative board choice option to a more gun style board in a two board quiver.

In Victoria the 'Starboard 9'5 Carbon Nut' is available for demo from my shop at 2365 Pt Nepean Rd Rye, midweek you might want to call and check on availability.

Yeah..same idea as the Meyerhoffer. I used to own a 9'6' Meyerhoffer and it would be the most fun longboard I've owned . Surf it like a shortboard off the tail then move forward for the noseride. Incredibly fast acceleration. It was also incredibly fragile [super light weight epoxy] and I had to repair it regularly for legrope gashes, etc and even light knocks on bitumen needed attention, but apparently the material doesn't soak up water, which was lucky. I sold it, reluctantly, after I added up the cost how much 5 minute araldite I was using . Pity, great idea. Wide point was 24" and behind centrepoint with widepoint on nose being 23'. It meant swing weight for pivot turns was beautifully balanced. I would love to have been able to buy a fibreglass version.
