Looking at touring board. But between a few some have a bow piecing nose but top is down turned. Why is this how does it help.

IMO there's a few reasons why this new down turned or upside down nose works.. When the normal upswept or curved nose hits chop the board tend to get lifted raising the nose high causing a rocking motion that causes drag and slowing the board down.. The upside down nose when hitting chop tends to continue straight through the wave without lifting and keeping the board going straight and fast.. Also a square piercing nose tends to want to pull left or right when surging on a runner or when pushed forward by a wave.. The smaller area at the tip of these upside down noses has less area to catch and is less likely to be pulled left or right.. Also once the nose goes under (like it often does) the normal shape nose is very slow to raise up through the water and will often wobble from side to side as it raises through the water.. The upside down nose raises quicker and straighter.. It also sheds water better.. Even the water that splashes over the nose drains off quicker.. One other thing this new nose shape dose is give maximum waterline.. A normal nose 14' board has the tip of the nose sitting high above the water and the actual waterline will be 4-6 or even 8" behind the tip of the nose.. The upside down shape give the maximum 14' of waterline.. The more waterline usually means more glide and a faster bosrd.. The last reason that I can think of.. is that it looks cool..
