I was looking at some video from the Maldives and thought I would share. Stay tuned for a cameo from Rick "The Rick" Pettifer and James Casey. You will also see Bert Berger floating around. If you are sensitive to profanity then turn your speakers down; Rick was happy with his wave. If you want to make the waves look good, watch the vid full screen.

Awesome video. Roughly how big were those waves ? Always hard to tell from these camera set ups

About 3X overhead. Would you believe... Well, some of them were head high +, but during that session most were a bit smaller. Someone took a photo which I believe was from that last wave in the vid.

I think these were from that session:

Ever the optimist...

This is the biggest wave I could find in my photos at the same break (taken from a different location) - unfortunately it is bit dark...

The water and reef is an amazing color at that break. The water was so clear. As you could probably tell, paddling for many of the bigger waves was like paddling in a river with the water sucking out over the reef, but so many times you could see the green and reef through the wave as it walled up. And then the wave ended in quite deep water that was the most amazing turquoise color.

Looks horrible, and you can see the bottom.
How did you cope

It was tough. I could only cope for 10 days and then I had to come home.

So beautiful. Having a top shape in dream waves is as good as it gets.

And don't feel bad about that first wave as it would have been a tight fit. Small tubes are more difficult than big actually...except for when you go down.

Yep, that's the wave. It was a cracker when we were there. I have been there twice before and it was tiny both times.

Unfortunately the water got very warm a couple of years ago so the reef is bleached at that depth. On my previous trips it was more colorful. I went diving there and fortunately in the deeper water it is still very healthy and colorful, with tons of marine life.

The head cam always seems to make the waves look smaller. They look much bigger in those pics. Thanks

Super cool videos.
Thinking about a trip next year. One question: all the waves in the videos and photos are rights. Any decent left wave? I suck at rights, and as I suck, I never practice them, so I suck even more, so I avoid them so ...

Well, one way to overcome your issue with rights is to go to the Maldives and surf lots of rights

No, I would have to say that there are not a lot of lefts. On my previous trips we had guys keen on lefts, and they did find some, but it seems like all the main breaks - in the central atolls - are rights. And not many of the rights have quality lefts nearby. I have only surfed once north of Male and we surfed rights, but there could be some lefts up there.

there is a left just to the left of makados ,but they lost a big raft full of rocks ,right on the break ,
it stuffed it ,hope its gone next few years ,when i return ..i like lefts too.

there is Honky's left ,too ,but you have to stay at the resort to surf it .out of bounds ...gggrrrr.

Nice video CSE.... thanks for bringing us along!
Almost taking out James and Bert on the same wave

Looks like you had a blast on those waves.... great still shots!

Kook Hat Cams work when no one will film you and they never miss the action and all GoPros shrink the wave size..... but get lots of nice background scenery.

Yes, I think James may have been a bit worried, but I had the matter in hand (luckily)!

I do like the kook-cam perspective. It is the next best thing to re-surfing the wave.
