Hi all, thanks in advance for your help and suggestions…

I recently bought a 14’ inflatable 8” thick x 32” wide SUP that I really like, and am getting quite good at (I can move up and down the board, turn on a dime, etc.) but I also want to get a hard board that I can just throw in the car and use… I have to lock it in the car, which means it can be about a maximum of 9’6” (maybe 9’8” since that seems to be a common size :)

So my question is: can anyone please recommend what I should look for (or any specific boards) for a good 9’6” or so, 32” wide (I am still a beginner ;) SUP that goes fast? That is my only requirement… I really like to ‘travel’ far with it and go across the harbour, etc. and need on that moves quickly to be able to do that (we have some massive ferries where I live! ;)

Thanks!

cheers,
Dan

Ps. I am 85kgs, if that helps with any recommendations…

This is a tough one to answer. The board length you are seeking is traditionally a wave board rather than a board that will go fast on essentially flat water, though taking account of the ferry wake that you mention. Are you assuming that the 9'6" board will be faster or more appropriate than your 14' inflatable? Because I doubt that it would be.

Actually, there is not that much ferry wake... I guess what I really meant is that I need a faster board to get across the harbour without being run over by one of them! lol ;)

I am not sure a shorter board would be faster than the 14" inflatable I have, but I guess I just wanted to make sure any shorter board I get is hopefully at least as fast? :)

Thanks!

Just out of interest, what brand is the 14' inflatable that you have? In my opinion, current model inflatable race boards (12'6" and 14') are only a little bit slower than the equivalent carbon boards of the same length. But they are substantially faster than a round nosed wave shape board under 10'. I fear those ferries may mow you down.

This might be your best option.. .. It's 9'8'' x 34''.. and that's the 9'5'' Mana in the background..
