well, for the qld titles anyway. all boards for all races are to be no longer than 14 ft and fixed fin.
this year restrictions to unlimited boards apply to the short coarse age divisions that were pretty much whatever board
cheers
ps don't bring your 17'4 sprint up ptwoody
Yeah a few interesting decisions with this years event...
No unlimited class and also no 12'6" class for those without a 14'. Seems like the event is now focussed only on the State Qualification part of the race (except when it comes to the course) and forgetting how good the support was for the original xcel race when it catered for everyone. Last year was the opposite with no 14' option for the short course and when they opened it up to extra divisions at the last minute, they got a lot of extra numbers racing.
Off the topic, but also noticed the Open women's state team allocation has halved since last year for both marathon and tech race - only 2 spots for each - and the same number of spots for Over 40 women. I'm all for giving the over 40 women the same opportunity as the men to win a state and subsequent national title - but doing so at the cost of open spots isn't exactly encouraging growth in the sport? Can't see why they wouldn't just add the over 40 women's without cutting the opens - won't make any difference in terms of running the marathon at Aussies and the tech race is separate to and much smaller than the men's anyway.
Restriction to one board size, reduced qualifying numbers, upwind paddle runs.....welcome to the beginning of the death of sup racing

Damn. Not that it would be ideal outside the creek.

Always nice to discover you need to buy a new board 2 months before a state title!!!
Does SQ consult with anyone regarding events? There seems to be allot of complaints about their actions which means they are either not reeding feedback or ignoring the feedback they are given. If it is the latter then I would start questioning why everyone supports them? Every club is affiliated with them...
As for the course, a race is a race, be stoked there are events being run. You train all year so what's an extra few km upwind. Maybe I should bring a spare bag of cement to hand out at the start line!!!

I'm just relaying the facts sir rjk
All the more reason for all QLD SUP Club presidents to sit down with Surfing Queensland and define the way forward for the sport.
Due to limited support of the unlimited state qualification divisions in 2013, they have been removed from the pathway, however Surfing Queensland has now included unlimited SUP social race divisions in this year's Immerse SUP & Paddle Festival.

Hey Raz, From what I've been told, Surfing Qld have been consulting Peasy, Beau and Kelly regarding the 2014 state titles,
and regarding the upwind paddle component "BRING IT ON"......
PS Peasy told me the BOP will be 12'6
