Heading to Maui in November & was hoping to hire a decent SUP.
Something like my Jimmy Lewis Striker 8'5 would be nice.
Anyone got recommendations?

Maui .....magical place . Stayed in Kaanapali and only supsurfed once . Found a beat up 10'6 Nalu rented from near Whalers Resort.

Here are some other links
i saved from 12 months ago. Not sure there is much range but it may depend on where you are staying in Maui.

Lahaina is probably your best bet

Thanks Gboots.
Will be staying in Kihei.
Was hoping there might be something like the selection that Blue Planet hires in Honolulu.
Seems most of the ones listed do mainly cruisers.
Might have to give some a call.

Hi xurfxup,
I've just arrived back from Maui & staying with Jimmy.... He has 2 big accounts in Kahalui that you can probably get boards from.... Hi-Tec & 2nd Wind & they're both near the airport on your way over to Kihei...or there's a shop at Lahaina on the main road through town on the corner that I can't remember the name of but i can find out for you...
I rode the 8'5 Striker when I sup'd over there along the breaks on the South Side....cheers Rob

Thanks Rob.
Will definitely check them out.
I'll send you a reminder if I don't hear back before November.
Loving the Striker by the way.

Cheers
Garry

Are they all reef breaks in Kihei ?
First time I surfed a reef break was at Kaanapali Maui. Not use to seeing anything but sand before then.

In November should be Surf at Kanaha, it's reef break but not shallow, you have to paddle out a bit to get to the break. Lots of places along that coast right up to Hookipa (locals!). Bart at Kanaha Kai has Starboard surfing sups as another option.
Most of maui is reef break. You can also get Surf in November on the west coast, starting at Thousand Peaks (Ukumehame), heaps of breaks all the way to Launiopoko and then just before Lahaina, Puamana. Should be able to google all of those to get directions.

Here are simple links on surf spots

Probably a good idea to take booties and maybe some precautionary anti biotics incase you get a reef cut . I got a smal but nasty reef cut in Waikiki that took over 6 months to heal. I didn't wear booties in Maui but in hindsight I think that was stupid even though the conditions were easy. My feet contacted the coral a few times . Was lucky

Shaved Ice - get into it!
And - don't let your credit card out of your site - shops, restaurants etc. Had one of mine skimmed at Lahaina, and overnight transactions of US$7k appeared overnight. Took weeks to sort out. Check your credit card balances on line regularly.

Thanks Helmy.
Will do.
Same happened to me in Italy a few years ago.
At an Avis Office.
Got refunded by the bank but almost missed it on the credit card statement that came through about a month after the transaction.

Just make friends with Kai Lenny - he's up near Paia and definitely would have a good selection!

In Maui now and had the best wave of my life. Stoked!

5-6 footer peeling long right.
On a Jimmy Lewis Stun Gun. Couldn't be happier with the service from Jaecey.
She took me out to a local spot. Got plenty of great tips and the gear is first class.

Can also recommend Big Wave Dave at Waikiki.

At 1000 peaks area. Sounds big but the waves were a great shape & was easy to get through the break between sets.
Waikiki very cruisy.

I've hired from Bart at Kanaha Kai 4 times now. Always good service and good quality Starby surf SUPs. Book online for a discount.
