OK so I went and had fun. Besides hangin' with the wife I was keen to get barrelled on the SUP. Unfortunately the swell didn't accommodate but got some good waves anyway in boardies. First couple days were at Legian/Seminyak and the beachies were fun, heavy the first day then playful but still heavy on the second day. I knew the swell was dropping and my chances of getting my first barrel were slim, so thought I'd try get an air during the trip. Here's a poor effort! So hard to get these things out of the water! After Legian we stayed in Bingin. Got a scotter to get around. The board was sooo big on the bike that the handle bars hit the board when trying to turn left so I had to push the board out with one hand and turn with the other. Helmet was XXL and kept falling over my eyes. SKETCHY!!! Helemt clip was busted! This is a shot towards Dreamlands from Bingin. Only broke well at low tide. Got it about over head+ and got heaps of waves. But the wife wouldn't ride with me on the scooter with the SUP so no pix. Checked Ulu's but was only any good on low tide. Didn't end up surfing it. Waves at Ulu's were better up towards temples? Looked good but a long wait between sets. The walk in to Ulu's after heavy morning rain! Some surfers weren't risking it. Margarita's at the Blue Point Resort on the cliff top at Uluwatu. Next day went back to Kuta for some Water Bomb Park action then got all the dry skin sucked off my feet. Then a Bingin session in the arvo on lowtide but no pix as the wife was getting a massage. A bit over head high on the sets. 10yo Bali kids getting barrel after barrel. That night went to dinner at The Rocks at Ayana Resort. Amazing place to stay. Food was amazing and the sunset. Not sure if the camera did it justice. Last day surfed Impossibles then Bingin all day. Swell was only small, about head high at Impossibles and chest high at Bingin. The wife rekons this photo was of the dog as it's face was a spitting image if Chewbacker! I rekon she has some weird fetish but I can't get her to act on it. The original is in crystal clear 12mp (it does look like chewy). 0.3 seconds too early...No matter how hard I tried to pop it I just couldn't get the tail clearly out of the water. Ugly straight legged Floater thing? Was an awesome trip. Didn't get any hate in the line-up at all and heaps of questions. Mainly people asking how long my board was as it looked real small. To wrap it up, Dreamlands is fun and a great SUP wave, Bingin is amazing and you want to paddle out at high tide and surf it into lowtide until it gets too busy. Still plenty of barrells if there is some size as the tide drops. Impossibles isn't that Impossible if it's hightide, definately worth checking. I was bummed I couldn't get my new board ready but the swell meant I didn't really need it. I will be planning another trip next year!

Great photos Brendan....looks fun. Shows my age, but last time I was at Ulu you had to climb down a bamboo ladder to get into the cave! There is one downside of these types of trips though - coming back to the cold water again. No wonder you only lasted about an hour and a half at Big Left yesterday. Cammo and I had another surf mid-afternoon and which was pretty good - better shape on the waves than in the morning.

Great trip report, I really enjoyed reading that. Especially the photo of the dog. I must be one of the few Aussies that has never been to Bali, so I enjoy reading the trip reports. Did you end up sorting out your quad fins?

Thomo, yeah I got the quad setup done but board wasn't finished in time for Bali due to very cold nights. Cureing took ages! Ended up taking my old board that has a bit of a crease but still goes pretty good. Ockanui, 3 metres is the max length. My board was 8'3" but in a 9' bag and they didn't blink an eye at it. One thing to note is with Virgin Pacific you get penalised 5kg of weight for over sized luggage. So that meant it had to be under 15kg. Lucky for me my board, paddle, fins, leashes, wax, booties etc all in the board bag added up to 13.8kg.

The menu we had to choose from was cheapish, but just finger food. Real nice though! Maybe one of the other levels had meals, we were hoping to have a good feed. Plenty of coctails though in the 10 page drinks menu!

Nice photies! From the looks of it, Legian/Seminyak waves almost looked more enticing. But I know that can't be right. With the helmet, I've read up that your average Gath surf helmet actually protects you more than some of those "sketchy" helmets that they might provide for you in Bali... and they will always fit better. And the plus of Gath helmet, is obviously that you can take it into the surf if you feel it is a necessity - not just for the scooter. BTW, nice skill with the SUP on the scooter!

I'm assuming the swell was big the first day as Legian was a solid 4ft and shutting down on lowtide but breaking good on high in the arvo. Problem was it was windy. The second day the swell dropped quite a bit and so did the wind. After that though it got pretty small everywhere. Yeah Dreamlands is an interesting place, a rather weird crowd in the water. Some rippers, some soft top mals and lots of Euro's. Got some real fun waves there though.

What a mean comment doc - were you on the turps when you wrote it? What in particular are you referring to? Nothing wrong in sharing some holiday snaps on a forum... is there? This post reminds me of the Leyland Brothers - they made some great tv series based on their experiences: You, I and many others all looked forward to the next installments back in the day. I think they went on to build a theme park that went broke - I never went there. I think they are dead now. You are a mean person Doc.

Cheers Mac! Where's Makaha's post? I've been away for a day or so. I can imagine... I don't really care what some think, could be easy not to post anything sometimes. I've never been barrelled on a SUP (and made it) and will chase it until it happens. If I get a photo I will post it for sure to share the stoke. If some don't want to see it then whatever, can't please everyone.
