Tallwood Constructions and the Bunbury Wavemasters are proud to present the first annual Battle of the Blades Saturday 31st 2015.

Comprising of a long and short course, the Blades aims to take advantage of the consistent SW breeze that blows in Summer in Bunbury, and involves a course across Koombana Bay, through The Cut and up Leschenault Estuary to finish at Ridley's Place Australind, approx 9km. a short course of 4km will also be available from The Cut to Australind, about 4km.

An excellent beginners event, the course is protected from the ocean swells that can often make downwinding confusing and challenging to those less experienced.

The event will be open to OC1's, SUP's and OC2's. Billed as a local club event, all comers are more than welcome to travel down and join us, particularly those in the South West looking to reignite the local racing scene. A rough handicap system will be devised to set up for a race for line honours.

Event cost TBA over the next few days, will be token to cover basic costs to put this event on.

Ideally southerly through to sou-west, even a west sou-west, the complete opposite
We're watching the forecast closely and if we need to we'll move to another date, We'll make that decision Thursday. Someone must've upset Huey this week!!

What's it like in the bay when the winds are 18+ & SW, good or protected in the bay to some degree?

The bay in 15knts plus gets better and better bumps the closer you get the cut. In the middle section of the bay I have had waist to shoulder high troughs all the way to the cut without the annoying cross chop you get in open ocean.

The best runs on this course are had in the estuary itself..........but that's local knowlegde

On a Sw it's a classic downwind run, totally protected from the swell. It gets a little confused as you hit the cut and the swells start to come in to play, but then again you can also pick up wave for a 100+ metres if the tides right. In the inlet, it's on average chest deep so the wind waves can jack up and produce some great troughs. It's a great run, perfect for rookies and we're keen to share it.

I've seen Bender on that hollow thing of his score a runner of about 150 metres inside the estuary

Hi all, the committee has decided in light of the forecast for off shore breezes, we're going to cancel this weekends event and look to find another gap in the calendar to go again. It's frustrating with all the effort to get this up and running, but we've got everything in place, just need the sea breeze to come back. Plus a honking side wind is not the kind of thing to turn people onto sup through downwinding!!

If any have entered online, lease email bunburysup@tpg.com.au and we'll arrange for a refund.

We'll keep you posted as we look to find another weekend to get this back on.

Cheers
