When I was 10 I used to hang out at the local surfboard factories cleaning the shaping bays for $2. They used to hand shape then so there was real dust and foam offcuts. You'd hang out cutting out decals, wet rubbing dings etc. To us it was the coolest place on the planet, especially if you could sneak a look at the Playboy in the lunch room.
The real joy of this job was not the $2 or the porn but that you could scour for the best bits of blank from the nose and tail with the stringer in them.
You'd scab some glass off cuts from the glassing room and a bit of resin in an orange juice bottle and go home and pretend to be a surfboard shaper.
I had pretend quivers of shortboards through to guns. I thought it was fun, I know why Dylan is so stoked with his creation.

Funny, I used to make them out of cuttle fish and shape them with a shell, my old man thought it was funny, I think he has some of them still
