I'm new to both this thread and surfing in general, to start off ill give a little background.

I've skated for a few years
I'd say I've got fairly well means of balance
6' tall & 145 lbs.

I've stood on a board a few times it was a random guy's so I have no idea of the board
So I'm looking for a board I can relax and ease into surfing I do not want to jump into any advanced type of boards at the moment so any good beginner boards with the specifics if possible, I also have a strict budget of 400$ so anything within that range would be perfect.

Thanks to those who reply it is greatly appreciated!

I would say 8 to 9.3 x 22-23 inches wide x approx 3 inches thick.

Longer the board the easier you catch waves . More waves equals more fun.

It's worth while getting a few lessons, and/or watching some good Youtube "how to" videos...

I would recommend spending about $600 on a good 2nd hand Surftech, or maybe just a Chinese Longboard, as a first board... Or a 2nd hand one off here...

As a first board... This thing, 9'1 x 64 litres would be good for you to learn on...

The Classic model on the same web site is 72 litres I think, and probably a single fin... Would also be good... The timber 9'0 model might be good also, by 58 litres I think...

The 72 litre board will actually paddle the fastest... But the 64 litre board might allow you to progress better...

Very good value boards...

I will take a stab and the op is a seppo.

So if you are mate, the above suggestions are on the money size wise. Plus I'm sure you will.find some great boards over there for your budget. Probably way better than what can buy.

If your not a seppo, just stick with what they said

Totally agree with the above and +++++++1000 to doing lessons, not just to learn correct technique but more so about etiquette in the lineup. But I would also add another idea, and my preference...

Personally I find that 9' is a lot of board to start with when your starting out, both to surf and also in the line up getting out etc. So the other idea is something around 8' but wider and thicker. The other thing here its its an intermediate size, so once you get the hang of things you might decide you want to step down to a shorter board for faster pace and turning etc or up to a long board for laid back cross stepping/noseriding etc, just depends on your style and what you enjoy...

I've got an 8' old BIC that I use for friends wanting to learn and it works a treat but the Waldens are really good and, much as I hate em, the 7S fish are awesome learner boards, they catch anything and are super stable plus there are plenty of 2nd hand ones on EBay, Gumtree etc.

Enjoy dude and hope you stick with...
