Thinking more about this, I reckon the players should be retired for min. 20 years (I may cop 15) cause I like to see a old bloke get it. I reckon some nominees are too young. You wouldn't give a knighthood to a 38 year old would you ? Same thing here. Provan should get it then Coote next time in say 3 years then don't give any more out for 10 years. Surely we don't want 20 immortals.

three guys in this photo should be in. john sattler held up by i think Bob McCarthy and i think thats Ron coote on the right maybe George Piggins in the middle
I think that's Mike Cleary on the right there Weiry.
did i get george and bob right
You got Sattler McCarthy and Cleary who was a winger and very quick but that other bloke looks like Rex Mossop who played for Manly. Someone will know.

Mossop would have retired by then. I reckon Piggins is far right. The rest are correct. Clearly was a dual international and represented Aust at Commonwealth Games in 400m I think. I will be drinking with a few old heads tonight that will know for sure. They lived through the Souths glory days - sadly Scotty not so much.

Your right Scotty Mossop had long since retired. Speaking of Piggins my Dad took me and my younger brother to a game at Jubillee Oval Souths v Saints. We were sitting behind the goal posts and watched Piggins drag Jon Jansen , who was a huge Saints prop, out of a scrum and belted the daylights out of him. Jansen stood easily one foot taller than Piggins. It got broken up but Piggins got the best of it. Another little hard man playing that day for Saints was Billy Smith.

I had a look back through the souths team Scotty and I think that other guy could be Ellwyn Walters. It doesn't really look like Piggins.

There's another photo of Piggins shaping up to Malcolm Reily who played for Manly and looked to be a foot taller. I'll find out the 4th player tonight for sure. It took me a while to work out Cleary.

For Breezers that didnt know. Its Captain John Sattler being chaired off after a 23 - 12 win over Manly in the 1970 G/Final he played with a broken jaw that he received in the first half.

i really believe it should be 25 years before you can be nominated. that way if you do get a nod you know you have survived 25y of debate and are not fresh in peoples minds...

SP Just in case you weren't sh1tstirring, Balmain beat Souths in 69 grand final. Souths were massive favourites with a huge line up of international stars. Some say it was the biggest upset in history.

Since then ?? Scotty as if I'd take the piss, this is a serious forum I'm just here to ensure that the knowledge of the older gentlemen has a pipeline to flow through . Na mate seriously, always been a tigers supporter always will be, I still remeber the GF we lost in 88 and I was about 10, only ever watched that once. **** Canberra & warren Ryan, dont start me on that KaHunt. As for your immortal, Daley, langer, meninga, fitler all good footballers, none immortal, langer was the best from that lot. But lots of others in this group, Lewis, Kenny etc, Ross colon is not one of them although Kerry Hemsley may be Johnsy was a genius and all genius's have flaws, I'll Pull the classic MP line out here," I could say but won't" but he doesn't deserve it, at the moment. Sterlo, not sure didn't see him enough, end of career was when I was young. The rest, too young to have seen them. But a vote has to go to Ronnie coote just for his contributions to Australian slang Best footballer I have seen is Lockyer and then Johnsy
