I'm designing a new board...all this stuff has been running around my head for months...and when that happens I just have to let it run...so I thought maybe I should share my thoughts. I just replied to cuttlefishes thread on mid length guns, where he stated some needs for what he wants to ride....its all criteria isn't it?....you have wants and needs for a surfboard... mine is not a gun, its a mixture of a whole lot of design concepts that I have learned over 45 years of shaping...and in this era of self promotion...where narcissism is the new black.....I feel free to lay it all down...it is an experiment of sorts so it will end up success....or I will get egg on my face...either way...here we go....so here is my criteria
1 I didn't want it to be too long
2 I wanted it to turn smooth
3 I wanted it to be a cruiser so it couldn't be too short
4 I wanted it to have a broad range of wave size
5 it must be quick
6 it needed multiple personalities...ie room for experimentation with fins...but not a quad or thruster
7 it must be a little odd ball and slightly out of the square...something you could ride with a beard and an open check shirt
8 it must paddle well
9 I want it to blade through the water ....like a KNIFE

Malo....I think I have it dialled...as I said its a mixture of a whole lot of concepts I have been using for a long while now...you will see more as the thread goes on...you can take it for a spin after I'm convinced it works

surfer....it will be basically a single fin but with little blades along the top of my chine bottom...hard to explain, it will all come clear when I start to glass

maniac....it is 7'8"x 21 x 2 3/4"....the 7' 8" is part of the design criteria....I can stand it in my shaping room so I can perve on it while i'm shaping...anything longer it has to lie down

deceiving photo Pup.... actually it has a pretty flat nose entry....high low rails make it look like nose flip

shaping is all done....I hope to get a side on it tomorrow....with some fiberglass trickery I will enhance the peak of the chine forming blades on the rail... I wont do that until I get both sides glassed, so be patient... I can only work on her in between other jobs so this may take a bit...should be able to surf it finless....and experiment with fin size

Looking great mate, can't wait to hear the test report.

We need more build threads on here, always good to learn more and see people's skills.

Don't let it distract you too much

I really appreciate a good chine and the aggressive bottom.
Talk about riding it finless and it gets even more interesting.

this has been a favourite bottom shape of mine for over 25 years now...this is accentuated quite a bit, and will be more so when I build up the peaks of the chine
