Wow that looks cold..

You can imagine your one of two photographers sitting in a board room with your editor. The Ed turns to the other guy and says your heading to Hawaii to shot Coco Ho nude, and turn to you and says and your going to the Arctic

Ok so it's a nice clip and good on them for having a crack. But seriously anyone who says they live the cold water over the warmer climates is delusional In NZ I surfed with snow on the hill behind the beach with strong offshores plenty off times - it is pretty much as unpleasant surfing experience as you can get. As for cold water well I reckon I have seen enough in my time. Try southern Chile at 6-8 degrees - it's horrific. Great waves but let's be honest nothing beats boardies, a rashie and taking off over a nasty shallow Indo (or similar warm water location) with clear after where you can see the bottom. Cold water = dark water most of the time in my experience - which can be a bit scary when it's big and challenging and you are taking them on the head, your head is hurting and you open your eyes hoping to see which direction the surface is so you can start swimming for the surface.

warm over cold any day of the week for me.

I knew an editor didn't say that, but it was just a joke and it didn't work any other way

I was more comparing between the different photo jobs..

i hear you ted.

why on sunday morning the cold and wind chill factor had the temp down to 4 or 5 i reckon. lucky the water was just under 20 or otherwise i would have bailed.

winters in qld are long and cruel

Believe me, whilst this is equal parts beauty, determination and crazy I'd take warm water any day. We're currently being hit by a southerly buster so I'm excited because my point (literally my back yard) will be like a wave machine tomorrow morning but dang she gonna be cold... I think my biggest issue tho is booties, essential but mann I miss the feel of feet on wax and glass...

Try 5mm suit, gloves and booties. Then add a 1mm with hood...

I'm actually weighing up one of these powered heat vests but the only one that works is like $400.. Getting old...

I'm embracing the cold because it keeps the crowds down....seriously I would pick mid winter vic with 1 -5 in the water over anywhere that has more than 10 people in the water

Thought so

problem with Tas is we're used to the cold, so the crowds still remain. in fact because the points really only work in winter, the crowds are often worse...

ppfff- your talking to a guy who has worked in perisher outside right up to june doing chippie work.

where you need heater fans for the concrete bedding for tiles to go off and that was inside!!!!!

where you pilot hole drill nails first because if you hit your finger you would spilt them clean open.

where i would heat sealant next to a fire then race out side and have about 3 mins to use it before it would go too hard with the cold.

where in the middle of summer one day it was 2 degrees in the shade and 16 degrees in the sun

where i worked the winter clearing the decks of snow by shovel and dug out the frozen fire wood as my first upmorning duties

ppffffff- need i go on. bloody pansy low landers

today the air had the snow chill in it for sure pup
