Whats going on lads?

Humiliated in the cricket and the league (by those mighty kiwis) - two sports that you have traditionally dominated the world at. Slow bowling and some good hard running - immmm. Lets not talk about your other rugby team - the less said the better I imagine. But alas all is not dead. MF is showing a great deal of fight to spring right into contention for a 4th world title and the Western Sydney Wanders have somehow finished 1 goal up in the first leg of the Asian championship and may just pull off the upset of the year in the sporting world. Daniel Ricardo looks good as well.

So is this just a temporary setback or a sign of times to come? Has Australian sporting supremacy shifted from one of traditional domination in some sports to more emerging leisure activities? Or is the WSW result a strange one given recent form and your national team falling down the rankings and they will concede 2 plus goals in the next one?

It certainly is an interesting landscape these days.

Not really. Most players were out,two key injuries and i thought we were a good chance to
lose. I still thought we had the players to win,but hey thems the breaks. I did realise that cherry evens is the new Mitchell Pearce though

Nice one Ted. Kick the leaguies while their down. The Wanderers have a wage budget of about $2 million. Every team they have beaten have at least 20 times that. The Japanese side even higher. Now thats punching above your weight. Gotta love an Aussie underdog, even if they have to 'park the bus' in front of goal to get a result. Go Mick!!!!!

It's pretty simple I reckon.. Any sport we get looked after too well and over funded we end up losing.... No fight to survive seems to mean no fight to win...

I was stoked with the Junior Wallabies and the way they stood up to the Haka.. That's passion.. The Aussie animal needs to breathe and be hungry. Mitchell Johnson in the cricket.. Aussie animal = ashes victory.

I actually remember reading a story in a US surfing mag about why Aussie surfers done so well on the world tour... The conclusion was that as an Aussie unless you're top 10 in the world you don't make any money. US Pro's string 4 turns togther once ever in a contest and get a hefty retainer, no need to ever really try or leave home or win to survive.

Go Mick... He's probably the only surfer other than Kelly on tour with the balls to pull this off which is obvious seeing he's done it before. Last year Medina came dead last so let's hope he loses early and Mick takes it out.

Yes you smoked us in that - somehow I had chosen to stick that result in my forgettery

Sandsy - if WSW can pull this off it will absolutely epic. A few yrs back when they were all cheering about gaining admission into this comp I thought it would be a very long time before an Australian team would be competitive - let alone standing on the verge of winning it! Its an incredible effort.

CMC - that funding model still needs some serious work though. It certainly does not seem fair and equitable across most sports.

Cobra - your cricket team financially is on fire - massive increase in revenue the last 12 months. They have cleaned up. Not a bad sport to be good at in todays market place.

500 up now and Younus (200) seems to be on fire. First time since 1998 that they have put 500 on in an innings against your mob. First time that they might win a test series against you for a while as well.
