Actually I have tried a variety of different fins that are the same template but different materials over the years. My experience is that there is no hard and fast rule. There have been times when I preferred the plastic ones to the stiffer ones and vice versa. I also think half decent recreational surfers can pick the difference in performance - mainly because I can and I certainly aren't a pro. The differences in materials are more about refinement and nowhere near as dramatic as a whole new fin.
I like the ABs in my channel bottoms too. No other fun seems to come close to working as well with the channels and I tried five different fin types before buying the bullet and coughing up the coin. Like all things surf related though, it does all come down to personal preference.
And, possibly even more importantly, let's all take this to a different thread and show some respect.

Good Point.
Ben's funeral service was held on Friday at the Surf Club down at Dawesville. There was a Paddle Out at Falcon Bay on Saturday.
The turnout for both was fantastic, and the strength required of his friends and family to speak so well on Ben's behalf at the service has to be commended.
