I'm hoping to spark a discussion on the fashion and big brands of surfing.
What are the best clothing brands and why?
What are the best equipment brands and why?
Also
I'm going to the UK in January and hoping to get some surfing in. It's going to be freeeezing and i'm just wondering what's the best wetsuit to get - any suggestions will be gratefully received!
Cheers
It's all shet
Surfing is not fashion or brands or cattle esq surf schools
Surfing sold it's soul long ago
Fark you and your market research
I like Adidas because I Grew up in the 80s. Forever young.
Desert boots are cool too.
I like my ripples and Ugg boots better ...
Still wear desert boots and flanno shirt in winter, Aldi boardies whatever t shirt I grab from cupboard and Aldi thongs. I love Aldi.
Guy asks a serious question and get bombarded with useless ****. Great work guys.

The only piece of big surf brand clothing I'd buy is boardies. And if I could find a good alternative I'd do that instead. Maybe Need Essentials.
I wear blank or non-branded clothing. Why would anyone would want something like "Billabong" written on their shirt? Unless Billabong are paying you, or you bought it for $2 from an op-shop.
Back in the days of the "Bob Hawke Surf Team" surf clothing was simple, functional and served to inform society that yes your disdain for me is well founded as I am in fact indulging in this weird activity on your coin. (and yes I just might also be stoned)
Now amongst surfers it seems to mean "I'm probably a dork" or "I got it for christmas"
^ Yeah well these days, there's nobody lining up at Centrelink and then heading to Vidlers for a t-shirt!

Romes
Driving to the surf listening to all the new music from bands in the Seattle / Grunge / Rock / Metal era's !!!
On a mixtape lol lol !!!
Mad Hueys bro.
Do a shoey in a trucker and the thongs will be surrounding ya.
You only need to be an above average surfer to join their crew
Or a toss pot
They do that better than the average toss pot I reckon.
Sorry to get back on track but...
I am back in the UK now and if you want to surf whilst here but don't own cold weather gear you will need to make some investment.
We are having the coldest winter in as long as I can remember and water is down around 7 degrees already
I wear an xcel Celiant tech 5mm, boots hood and gloves essential

It seems like there's a lot of animosity towards the big surf companies
And for good reason
It seems like the surf industry is self destructing
As far as their concerned there's not enough people involved in surfing even though it's plain to see from the average sutfer that there's way too many
More people involved in surfing generally means more profits for the big companies
But for the rest of us we have to live with endless bedlam in the lineups all around the world
As far as I'm concerned Gordon Merchant and his mates can get farked

Well said
Yep I'm happy to rock up to the beach in my $8 kmart trackies & 50k Rp Billabong ripoff tshirt...really doesn't effect my choice of surfboard for the day...or the conditions unfortunately. If the clothing company's paid something to developing ocean redesign programs (artifcial reefs) to develop waves with good shape or offshore, I mean out of ocean waves like Kelly's I'd pay more...but really I couldn't give a fark if clothing company's & their spronsorship programs died. Do I want to see surfing develop or see more people attracted to the sport/culture/pasttime Hell no i don't, I want more waves...
