It wouldn't have been Ross nor Shane Graffin as they both rode bodyboards and short boards. EDIT: Yes indeed Mocha1...RIP Ross.

Well there you go. Wonder why that name popped up at the time, just same vintage I guess. I'll leave the mysto figure in my memory nameless...

Cheers

Used to be a goat boater that surfed Little Island who was insanely good, he'd take off way inside the peak and bust an air on the peak where everyone else had to sit. Ballsy as when you're strapped.

What do you weigh Bolgo and what do you mainly surf? I've got one in PU that'll do 3-8ft plus and one compsand that'll do up to 6ft or so.

A few guys at Lennox ride the black surf mats at the point
Looks to be seriously fun and nothing like my memory of surf mats as a kid
Secret is low inflation from what I can gather
They are seriously quick and use fins/flippers
Way cooler than a bodyboard in my view
Will be the option I go as sadly I am headed down the same path eventually

Lovin this thread. Remember a goaty in the 90s that used to surf huge tombies. Dropped down the steps and everything - was classic. Best thing was a pic of him ended up in surfing life dropping down the ledges in front of a stand up.

Bolgo if it was me I'd go a mat or a kneelo. Both look super fun.

Have you read Tim Finnegan's 'Barbarian Days', Bolga? Tim provides some interesting insights into surfing for life. If you like or used to like paddling into waves a consequence, you would love Tim's book. In my view you should try to keep your gills wet somehow......

cheers everyone

sup - can't paddle them - over arm action too sore and its the paddling action thats the issue with longer boards too

a chippy mate of mine has bad shoulders can't even get a framing gun above his head somedays.

he said the same thing as you about SUP & longboards, he was given a short sup paddle, arms don't go above his shoulders

and he concentrates on using the bottom arm in the stroke,,,he's loving it.

he's the same age as you, he hates not being on a short board, but loves the fact he's surfing without pain.

good luck.

I have been battling some lower back issues so getting up to my feet became difficult.

Really need to get back into yoga seriously to see what effect that will have.

There is a spot near where I live that in the big storms is protected by a small groyne.

Never that big but can get really hollow and I love body boarding it.

Try to explain how much fun to mates who ride a short board and nothing else and they look at me like I am an idiot.

But while they were sitting in their house not doing much I am out there with the kids getting a whole bunch of tunnel vision. Who cares if you are lying down.

Let go of your ego and get a body board, a surf mat, fins etc

Keep connected to the ocean energy anyway you can

The other thing is just a short board and flippers

I have found that you can have fun going from laying down to kneeling and back again

I could still paddle just not get up so didnt need the fins

Have heard about Katana Kneeboards & wouldn'd mind giving one a shot if you still have any for sale. Cheers Jobster.

Just talking to a friend who had a surgeon recommending he have shoulder surgery for a medium muscle tear.
He tried phsyio first and now no need to go under the knife.
Here's something no one has mentioned yet.
www.moresurfboards.com/BellyBoards.html
It is a tonne of fun and very different from a bodyboard. The speed is very addictive.
Just get one made in dims that you can kick with flippers.
Mine was the first one Mark made and he's refined the design since then. As his website says they have become part of his model range.

Have all you blokes thought about your paddling technique?

Makes a huge difference on wear and tear on the shoulders over a life time.

powerboards1.com

they make short boards of any design you want apparently.

might be the answer, not cheap, but certainly allows the continuation of the fun.

Also talking to a guy who had a shoulder replacement. reckons that after 18 months of rehab it's the best his shoulder ever felt..

good luck
