Hi there! I recently moved to Australia and trying to get back into surfing as soon as possible but I find extremely hard to be able to read the wind properly. I checked the forecast last saturday but definitely I failed, misunterstood and lost my sunday morning looking for some waives at St. Andrews. What area should I check the wind for if I were to go to St. Andrews in the Peninsula? Metro or East Coast? And what about for Phillip Island? And what's the perfect wind direction for both? Cheers!

North to North East for that part of the coast....smaller swell is your friend down there if your just learning
As Tux says, N/NE for the back beaches but if you want a small wave around Westerport/Flinders area (perfect for beginners) it will work with a W/NW wind.
Pretty much what everyone has said thus far is correct.
East coast Peninsula open beaches are best on a N/NE wind.
Flinders N/NE.
Westernport W - NW.
Phillip island varies depending where you are.
East side open beaches is the same as the East coast of the Peninsula.
Western end is better the straight the N is.
Cat Bay area works on anything E. Probably the only area close to Melb that can handle a SE, but needs swell.
Torquay area is NW, with some tight pockets handling anything W-NW.
Anything SW-SE sleep in
