That'd be the first I can recall up there, surprising really, given the nature of the wave. RIP

Windsurfer passed away 7 or 8 years ago. There are some horrific injuries pretty regularly.

terrible

my mate up there, due to some confused messages I initially thought it was him, which was a gut wrenching experience
the guy was paddling out with his son
hit reef between 2nd and third bubble
died instantly

the windsurfer was a german guy, broke his neck, high cervical level
never had a chance, and there were some very experienced doctors there at the time of that accident

same as the cott kite surfer, couldn't have had better medical care at the scene
or Phil Hughes cricketer, freaky things happen

Sooo tragic and sad. So much respect for those that were there and helped as much as they could. Couldn't imagine how his son is feeling.
