In recently copying vhs taps to digital form I discovered that my two prized tapes of Australian windsurfing history have been lost forever. Six hours of three minute grabs from any windsurfing shown on tv for 20 years.

I spent years in front of the tv on Saturdays watching hours of Wide World of Sport, Sports Sunday etc, poised to press record when the windsurfing came on. I do literally mean years full of Saturday and Sunday sports shows. What I had and have lost, and would hope someone else in Australia was as motivated as I to record, includes the following:

Ch 9 interviews with Mal Wright prior to and after breaking 40 knots including the sandy point run. The JP run of 39 knots on wave gear in the 65 knot storm.
ch 9 coverage of the 1991 speed trails with little wind at Sandy point.
Ch 9 Sotovento coverage of Mal and Peter Dans competing. Including the Laird Hamilton speed board forward loop session.
Ch 9 coverage of the Coke classics slalom and wave events of 1992/3/4 held at Wanda beach and Hookipa. Some showing JP on Wildwinds gear before exploding onto the world scene.
Ch 9 footage of Long Reef looping by Hedgie and Mark Angulo to the sounds of Labamba.
Ch 9 coverage of Pascal Maka breaking the speed record of 38.86 knots.
Ch 9 coverage of the OP international wave event finals of 1986 and 1987 at Diamond head.
Ch 9 coverage of the WA state slalom rounds held under lights.
Ch 9 coverage of the Ledge to Lancelin Event of 1988, 1989. 1990, 1991 where they covered the waves, slalom and marathon.

Ch 9 film of the Lancelin race in 1987 - "F 16 white water, white lightning"?
Ch 2 interviews of Pascal in Perth.

Ch 2 interview from 7.30 report about David Sheen taking on the world.
Ch 7 footage of the 88 world tour final when Bjeorn wind for the first time.
Ch 7 footage of the Rotto Return marathon racing won by Anders Bringdal.
Ch 7 coverage of the 1st Bercy indoor eventCh 10 one hour special covering the PBA world tour event in Perth.

Ch 10 interviewing Anders Bringdal prior to the event.
Ch 10 clips of the west Oz tour stop at Cervantes.
Ch 10 healthy wealthy and wise interview with JP in the wild wind days.
Gillette World sports coverage of the Aloha classic 1992.
HOT the windsurf movie.

Any help in finding some of this lost footage would be immensely appreciated.

yeah Mike, lost for good as in tape failure. Thankfully you tube has some of it and some sailors have a bit on tape. But the WA stuff may be gone for good.

Bummer - I think I did the same. I had awesome stuff. I remember a WWOS segment on JP almost landing a double forward at Pt Danger. Soundtrack was Boom Crash Opera - Dancing in the Storm from memory.
